QUESTION:  How to apply Buoyancy force on the Substructure ?

ANSWER:

In AASHTO LRFD the Buoyancy is shown under WA (Water Loads).In RC pier the specific Load case is WA ( Water and Stream Pressure).Currently Buoyancy can be inputted only as a manual load.  As per AASHTO LRFD (Article 3.7.2) Buoyancy shall be considered to be a uplift force, taken as sum of the vertical components of Static pressures as specified in Article 3.7.1 acting on all components below design water level.
