    Rotating Prestressed Concrete Beams

For typical highway bridges, while steel girders under slabs are typically always oriented vertically or plumb, for pretensioned/precast girders this is not always the case.

To simplify construction, and avoid using complicated formwork, some girder cross sections (typically box beams, flat slabs, hollow core slabs etc.) are placed rotated to follow the cross slope of the deck. OpenBridge Modeler allows the user to rotate the beams to follow the bottom slope of the deck. User can optionally chose to override the computed value, and input their own Beam Rotation value for each individual beam.

The program displays the computed beam rotation to allow the user to make changes to some or all beams, and the computed rotation information is displayed readily.

Figure 1: Beam Definition rules/properties allows the user to specify if the "Use Beam Rotation" option is True or False.

Figure 2: Beam specific Rotation Angle displayed on Beam Definition dialog, with Override option activated.
