    RSI Wizard

The new Rail Structure Interaction Wizard in RM Bridge is a tool to facilitate the input of the additional elements necessary to model an RSI. It aims to ease the creation of tracks and spring elements to simulate the link of the rails and the bridge structure at the deck level. It also adds the embarkments at the bridge's beginning and end. To launch the Rail Structure Interaction Wizard screen right-click on the Tree menu at the Main Girder and select it instead of New Main Girder, as shown in the screenshot below.

The bridge Cross-Section should have a Geometry Point with an offset from the deck from where the track will be placed. It will model two rails with a constant distance from this center point. The track will be connected through the nodes with one of the options below:

    • Directly to the longitudinal beam: using the element Part node
    • At a transversal beam: using Links nodes to distribute the loads within close girders

    The first menu defines:

    • the reference Main Girder: to set the CS
    • the number of tracks: or independent rails
    • the element's maximum subdivision: segments will be subdivided and made shorter
    • the Embarkment length: at the model beginning and end, where the tracks are directly linked to the ground

As shown below, the Main menu allows for editing the additional input details for each selected track:

    • Select the track
    • Choose the Connection Point, the reference GP - Geometry Point where the track will be placed
    • Pick out the Material from the list
    • Designate the track CS, rail type, distance and angle
    • Elect the structural connection as Ballast or Elastomeric bearings
