LBS – Moment of Inertia considered for Final and FinalN deflection

    Document Information

    Document Type: FAQ

    Product(s): LEAP BRIDGE STEEL

    Version(s): All

Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group -VM

QUESTION: What Moment of Inertia the program is considering for Final and FinalN Wind load deflection?

    ANSWER:

In Final stage the deck is ignored and hence the analytical properties for the transversal elements are set to dummy or very small numbers. The transverse load is resisted by the steel frame only.

In FinalN stage the deck is considered as composite part of the frame. Even if the deck thickness is very small, the width of the deck provides the stiffness and participates in resisting the load and that reduces the displacements.
