QUESTION: What are the assumptions and limitations of Deck slab design?

ANSWER:

Precast/Prestressed Girder now designs the interior region of the deck as per the Empirical method specified in LRFD Art. 9.7.2 and the

Approximate/Strip method specified in LRFD Art. 4.6.2. You can specify the rebars in the top and bottom of the deck in both transverse and

longitudinal direction, and the program checks against the required steel. 

Following are some of the assumptions and limitations in the Deck design method:

 Deck design is currently only available in LRFD mode.

• Deck design is currently not available for flared girder geometry.
• The reinforcement specified on the Rebar dialog box on the Deck tab is not used for any other calculations, either in transformed section properties or in the negative moment reinforcing in the deck at piers.
• Deck design for the overhang portion is not yet implemented in this release and should be calculated separately.

 Also, users can design the Deck above the support for Negative moment only. By inputting the Negative moment continuity Steel in Rebar Pattern window.
