Aecosim / release policy

I'd like to encourage Bentley to think over release policy, from my point of view as an user and administrator I would like to have more regular releases.

  • .376 SS3 released 2012-10-05
  • .593 SS4 released 2013-06-28
  • .747 SS5 released 2014-04-16

Given the fact that the latest releases were not tested with a metric dataset, we do have the problem that a bunch of things related to the lack of internationalization are found right after a release, so we need to have to wait at least for the next release to get them fixed.

Ideally I would like to have the Ubuntu release policy, with a release every 6 months. If parts of the product are not ready for a release, they need to wait for the next one.

I agree for 100% with such approach and it's pretty the same I hear from my customers (not specifically in relation to AECOsim BD, but Bentley products in general). With an increasing number of users and/or increasing complexity of a product, the implementation and adaptation schedule and planning (training, migration of projects, local testing etc.) have became more and more important.

  • I remember in the original days of Ustn I could get updates monthly.

At this point I don't know why we don't have a system that mimics Windows with Updates as needed

  • I strongly encourage to make a SS5 update release in december.

  • Hello

    Must strongly agree

Still puzzled as to why there is not an update/maintenance release mot scheduled in for approx 4-8 weeks after the main release. Can we get things fixed promptly, and not be dragged out over the next year or 2.

Bentley, if something has not been thoroughly tested and checked, please don't put it in. It won't get used and just adds to the 'clutter' and overall feeling that 'this is too complicated, .... a bit of a mess', so I'lol just paid it (and maybe use something else)

  • A bit funny that Microsoft now also seems to have found out that Ubuntus release policy is much better than theirs.

After what I know the next Windows is more or less the last one to be released, and they are going over to rolling releases as well.
