AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 4 (v10.04.00.69)

The AECOsim product team is pleased to announce the availability of AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 4 (v10.04.00.69) on Fulfillment Center and for update through the CONNECTION Client. The product is available in six (6) languages -Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian and Spanish) and includes fourteen (14) regional datasets - Australia, China, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Neutral Metric, New Zealand, Swedish, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States (Imperial & Metric).  This version incorporates several new productivity enhancements as well as user requested fixes. It also includes updates from MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 11. Please refer to the "What's New Highlights" section below for some of the product updates and enhancements. 

GenerativeComponents, Update 5 (v10.05.00.52) is also available as a companion feature and this computation design platform can easy be included as part of any deployment of AECOsim Building Designer. 

Update via CONNECTION Client:

If you have AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition already installed on your computer, you can incrementally download and install AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 4 from the CONNECTION Client. It will replace any earlier versions of the product. Sign into the CONNECTION Client to view and apply your Application updates. If needed, please refer to the CONNECTION Client help for  more information on installing the update.

If you would like the full installation of AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition x64 (Full) Update 4, please follow these steps to download it from Fulfillment Center:

  • Sign in to Bentley.com
  • Browse to Support
  • Select Go To Portal                     
  • Choose Software Downloads from "My Support"
  • Select the Brand AECOsim and then select the Generation of CONNECT Edition.
  • Download the latest release by clicking on the arrow to expand the selection and then on AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition x64 Update 4 version 10.04.00.69

The Fulfillment Center can also be accessed through the CONNECTION Client. Open the CONNECTION Client from the system tray and select CONNECTION Center. Scroll down the “My Support” section and select the “Software Downloads” portal. This will take you the Fulfillment Center.

 Important installation requirements and notices are found in the Readme. 

Updating Dataset:

Please remember that upgrading AECOsim Building Designer from one update to next, currently does not automatically upgrade the dataset. Datasets are not automatically upgraded to preserve any customization and project fidelity. It is recommend that you make copies of your current dataset and allow the upgrade installer to install fresh and current versions of the datasets that can be used as an aid to upgrade your custom version. Each dataset includes a version to version migration outline additions, deletions and significant changes.

 

What's New Highlights 

  •  CONNECT Licensing:

This product version utilizes CONNECT Licensing, which is not supported by SELECT activation key(s). CONNECT Licensing features new behavior to enhance your organization’s user administration and security with mandatory user sign-in via CONNECTION Client to access the application. If you are already signed in to the CONNECTION Client, you have met this prerequisite. If you have not, please refer to the Administrator's Resource Center and/or contact your administrator for assistance in the registration and sign-in process.  

  • Curtain Wall Tool (NEW)

AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 4 introduces a new and exciting Curtain Wall tool. In this first version, you will be able to create complex rectilinear fixed storefront windows.

This new tool allows you to define elaborate storefronts, commonly used in commercial buildings around the world. You can place the mullion pattern in a number of ways, and then the new Mini Toolbar lets you modify the mullion layout as much or as little as your design requires.

The AECOsim Building Designer Schedule tool lets you report on the quantities of mullions and panels in your curtain wall assemblies.

 Future updates will allow you to define a non-rectangular curtain wall by drawings its outline in elevation view and add operable panels, such as doors and louvers, to your curtain wall. 

  • Graphical Column Schedules

We have further enhanced the capabilities with Graphical Column Schedules in Update 4. Graphical Column Schedules can now interact with multiple Building Definitions, be created in an external file, retain user embellishment during regeneration and updates, display column locations as geographic coordinates, and support vertical division of the Graphical Column Schedules to better accommodate sheet placement for tall vertical construction. 

  • Standards Naming Utility (NEW)

Update 4 introduces a new administrator utility which assists in defining and maintaining file, model, and/or saved view naming standards. This user-definable XML-based utility creates a dynamic dialog with a series of properties that can be easy used by your users to formulate a file, model, and/or saved view name by filling out a brief form. This utility can be implemented to support organization naming standards or even help support BS 1192 and/or Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) naming standards. In fact, sample template for both are delivered with their respective regional datasets. 

  • Structural Sections (NEW)

Support for several new section types have been added; Solid Elliptical, Obround & Elliptical Obround. 

  • Stairs and Handrails

Stairs Tool integrated into Ribbon - The Stair tool is now integrated with the Ribbon Bar interface and uses the common properties dialog when placing or modifying stairs. Stair placement settings are now listed on the contextual Placement ribbon tab, and all properties are located on the Place Stair Property Panel.

 Stair resymbolization is improved, with many common user-requested changes added to the logic.

 Stair Construction Settlings Dialog - A new Stair Construction Settings dialog replaces the previous Stair Properties dialog and Stair Placement Settings toolbox. Settings for managing stair configurations are consolidated in the new dialog tabs, similar to the Railing Properties dialog. Both dialogs now have tooltips that display images from the help show what each property does.

 Ability to Rotate Stair Run - Stairs with landings and more than one run now contain a handle at the center of the ending run. This handle can be manipulated to Change Flight Angle or rotate the direction of the second run about the landing center point.

 Clearer Railing Justification logic - The railing tool logic has been revised. Left and Right now use the extents of the railing geometry. The other option, By Model Line, uses the zero line from the railing definition to allow you to define the railing by a specific location. The new justification always keeps the railing facing the same direction and adds an option to flip the orientation.

 New Place Railing placement options - New options added to the Place Railing contextual ribbon tab (Placement > Placement Options) provide additional flexibility to construct complex railings.

The Railings property panel and Settings Dialog now show the placement line, to help clarify how the railing will be placed.

Railings are associated to stairs they are placed on and respond to moving the stair, changing the stair width, changing the stair height, and adding/removing landings.

User Defined Parametric Balusters and Panels - The Railing Construction Settings - Balusters tab is enhanced to provide you with two new methods for creating parametric balusters and panels. These allow you to make balusters that vary in height, allowing for the same baluster to be used along a horizontal run and along a stair, and to create panels that vary in length and angle. This also allows Balusters with an elevation of Zero and are placed on a stair to "land" on the tread. 

  • Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire Protection

All Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection components and tools have been refactored and upgraded to .NET, which provides all these disciplines with a more responsive and secure set of capabilities. A new .NET API is also available and AECOsim Building Designer is discontinuing delivery of VBA-based components and the VBA COM libraries for Mechanical based components. 

  • Mechanical Bypass Ducts/Pipes (NEW)

A new modification tool has been added that allows Duct and Pipes to be easily rerouted over or under an obstruction such as another Duct, Pipe, or structural member. This bypass will automatically add the necessary fittings to reroute the Duct or Pipe to bypass the obstruction with definable clearances. 

  • Reporting/Scheduling

Wildcard support is available in Schedule Filters: When the string property and compare option is set to “Equal to” or “Not equal to” you can use wildcard in compare value; * : match a number of characters, ? : match a single character and # : match any digit (0..9)

Components inside a railing can be reported on, showing the length of rails and the number of balusters and posts 

  • Solid Working Area Validator

This new utility checks to see if your model is contained within the Solids Working Area. It is AECOsim Building Designer best practice to model within the Solid Working Area. The farther you model away from the file origin, the greater the floating point rounding errors can be in calculating geometry intersections, such as unification. Buildings should be oriented to the site using referencing and the Geographic Coordinate Systems. 

  • Survey Feet Warning

It is not recommend to use AECOsim Building Designer components and content to be placed within a file whose working units are defined as "US Survey Miles/Feet/Inches". Building components are only available in International Feet and Metric Units. Therefore, the creation and assignment of a file to Survey Feet working units has been removed from AECOsim Building Designer to maintain the content scale and fidelity. However, AECOsim Building Designer is designed to support referencing of Civil content using US Survey Units and Geographic Coordinate Systems. Files opened for edit in AECOsim Building Designer with units defined as Survey Feet will receive a compatibility warning. 

  • New Configuration variables

Several new configuration variable have been implement to improve dgnlib management and provide a better single source of standardization; MS_DGNLIBLIST_DETAILINGSYMBOLS, MS_DGNLIBLIST_DRAWINGSEEDS, MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES, MS_DGNLIBLIST_DIMENSIONSTYLES, MS_DGNLIBLIST_TEXTSTYLES and MS_DGNLIBLIST_TEXTFAVORITES.

*Note: MS_DGNLIBLIST_DRAWINGSEEDS although available was not implemented in Update 4 due to an issue locating Drawing symbol cells associated with the Drawing Seeds.

  •  User Interface Consistency

All AECOsim Building Designer commands "reset" back to the Selection tool with a reset click

All Side Offset and Base Offset settings are now on the Contextual Ribbon 

  • COBie

The ability to export to a COBie compliant spreadsheet via the IFC has been refactored to remove the intermediate i-model and legacy ODBC dependency. The COBie spreadsheet is directly derived from the IFC2x3 Facilities Management Handover view, and the quality of COBie output should not be impacted by this change.

 

GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition Update 5 (v10.05.00.52), Companion Feature: 

  • Grid node type (NEW)

GenerativeComponents now includes the new Grid node type, which allows GenerativeComponents to draw on Grids defined in AECOsim Building Designer, or to create Grids in GenerativeComponents and define them for usage in AECOsim Building Designer. 

  • GC to GC inter-file node referencing (NEW)

With Update 4 it becomes possible to expose nodes as outputs from a GenerativeComponents model to become inputs to another GenerativeComponents model for GenerativeComponents to GenerativeComponents collaboration at the computational design contents level. The approach works analogous to file referencing. 

  • Improved performance (Major Enhancement)

Responding to user remarks about lagging performance in GenerativeComponents we increased our efforts to accelerate GC processing. With Update 4 we achieved up to 90 % performance increases for many of GenerativeComponents’ processes. We will continue to look for additional opportunities to accelerate GenerativeComponents. 

  • Enhanced backup scheme (Major Enhancement)

To reduce loss of work, GenerativeComponents keeps several copies of GCT backup files. In case of rarely occurring transaction loss, these backup files will allow retrieval of transactions from prior states of the GenerativeComponents model and significantly reduce loss of work. 

  • Sample solution as part of installation (NEW)

With Update 4 we start including the C# Sample solution as part of the installation. No longer will it be necessary to hunt for this GenerativeComponents “SDK” in community forums. After installation, it can be found easily in this location: C:\Program Files\Bentley\AECOsim CONNECT Edition\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\GenerativeComponents\SampleSolution\. The included “Please Read Me First.txt” file contains detailed instructions how to use this sample solution.
