OpenBuildings Station Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 5 (v10.05.00.19)

The OpenBuildings product team is pleased to announce the new product OpenBuildings Station Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 5 (v10.05.00.19) through the Bentley CONNECT Center, Software Downloads portal. This is the first release of the product although it is versioned as 'Update 5' to indicate compatibility with the OpenBuildings Designer version.

OpenBuildings Station Designer is currently only available in English with a Neutral Metric dataset with plans to expand to other languages and regional datasets in future updates. It incorporates all the features and capabilities of OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Edition Update 5 and MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 12. For product unique capabilities please refer to the "Highlights" section below.

LEGION Model Builder CONNECT Edition (v10.00.00.84) is available as a companion application (optional installation; license included with OpenBuildings Station Designer) and can easily be included as part of any deployment of OpenBuildings Station Designer. LEGION Model Builder allows you to create pedestrian simulation scenarios by defining spaces, activities in spaces and characteristics of people movement to be used as input to LEGION Simulator (optional installation; license not included with OpenBuildings Station Designer). Activities include but are not limited to definition of arrival points, destinations, waiting zones, queuing behaviors, stairs and escalators.

LEGION Simulator CONNECT Edition (v10.00.00.84) is also available as a companion application but requires a separate license which is not included with OpenBuildings Station Designer. LEGION Simulator calculates pedestrian simulations based on LEGION Model Builder scenarios and provides review analysis with movement dot patterns and density heat maps.

OpenBuildings GenerativeComponents CONNECT Edition, Update 5 (v10.05.00.77) is available as a companion feature (optional installation; license included with OpenBuildings Station Designer) and this computational design platform can easily be included as part of any deployment of OpenBuildings Station Designer. Specialized GenerativeComponents template scripts are included to generate station assets relative to linear alignments utilizing parametric design and change-propagation supporting exploration of design alternatives. Additional information about the template scripts is available through a Bentley Community Wiki page which will also point to training opportunities.

Update via CONNECTION Client:

Since this is the first release of OpenBuildings Station Designer, an update is not available from the CONNECTION Client and requires download and installation from the Bentley CONNECT Center, Software Downloads portal.

Highlights for OpenBuildings Station Designer CONNECT Edition, Update 5 (v10.05.00.19)

 • Pedestrian Simulation

OpenBuildings Station Designer includes LEGION Model Builder (Optional-Free), which allows you to create pedestrian simulation scenarios by defining spaces, activities in spaces and characteristics of people movement to be used as input to LEGION Simulator. LEGION Simulator (License-Required) is available from the OpenBuildings Station Designer installer as an "optional" install but requires a separate license purchase.

 • Functional Space Layout

A ready to use catalog of functional space types specific to stations for layout and reporting.

 • Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment

A ready to use catalog of equipment (e.g. ticket kiosks, gate turnstiles, passenger information displays) for space planning.

 • Computational Design Templates

GenerativeComponents template scripts generate station assets relative to linear alignments utilizing parametric design and change-propagation supporting exploration of design alternatives.

 • Geographic Coordination

Design coordination with OpenRail Designer and OpenRoads Designer utilizing geographic coordinate systems.

What's New Highlights for LEGION CONNECT Edition (v10.00.00.84)

 • Enhanced Scenario management

In previous versions of LEGION Model Builder, the Scenario Manager allowed batch creation of scaled versions of Profiles (e.g. Arrival or Event Profiles) but had the limitation that if the base profiles changed the scaled versions were not updated accordingly. Scenario management has been improved in LEGION Model Builder CONNECT Edition, with automatic update of scaled Profiles when base Profiles are modified. Using scaling to create new Profiles which are then detached from the corresponding base Profiles is still possible.

 • Ability to apply Filters during Map recording

LEGION Simulator CONNECT Edition brings the ability to record maps capturing only entities matching specific Filter criteria. This can be helpful in a variety of situations. For instance, it enables recording of alighters while ignoring boarders to create maps showing platform clearance times, or to record only queueing Entities when studying the spatial and temporal extent of queues.

 • Formal queue for Gate Objects

In previous versions of LEGION, Entities approaching a Gate would form a ‘relaxed’ funnel-shaped queue pattern under high demand. In LEGION CONNECT Edition, there is an additional queuing behavior option, which organizes Entities into a formal queue before the Gate.

 • Waiting Zone capacity

Waiting Zones now have a capacity parameter similar to Delay Points. Once maximum capacity is reached, Entities heading to that Waiting Zone must wait until some of the occupying Entities depart.

 • Improved speed profiles

LEGION CONNECT Edition revises some existing Simulator speed profiles to improve the precision of profiles created from noisy data sets. At the same time, we have made improvements whereby Entity attributes such as gender can affect the speed profile assigned to each Entity.
