Finally after much research, and responding back and fourth, I was able to replicate the issue I believe you are speaking about.
Please see the two screen captures, one with the ducts shown correctly, with the BV dialog turned OFF, and the second screen capture with the BV Dialog turned ON. And the ducts and the insulation are the SAME color.

Ah Steve yes you are right. I have forgotten change the duct's insulation property to the renamed Part. Then it works right.

But nevertheless I have always the same problem. As soon as I create an own Part Definition the duct's insulation changes to the

color of the duct Part Definition and not to the insulation Part Definition, when BV is on.

New Tests with AECOSIM SS6 08.11.09.829 Out-of-the-Box

1. I used a part definition of Dataset_NM without any changes

Duct insulation has the color of it's part definition. OK

2. I only renamed the original part definition (same which I used before) without any further changes

Duct insulation changes to WRONG color. Now it has the color of the duct itself but this is wrong!

To cause this issue it's enough that I rename an existing part definition.

My machine is running with German WIN7. Could this issue be caused by German WIN7?

Does anybody else have this issue?

I don't use materials for mechanical components, neither manually nor by parts.

Just to clarify my issue:

Toggle Building View ON do not change the duct itself,

BUT it changes the INSULATION of the duct.

The insulation is created as a part of the duct.

When I toggle BV OFF:

When I toggle BV ON the Color and Transparency is always wrong, no matter which Display Style I use:

When demoted you are using the attributes only - and only materials you have manually set. (Don't manually set any materials or you will just make this more confusing.

When Promoted it will show materials set by parts - AND any items displayed with attributes means it can't find it's part or the part does not have the materials set.

Here is what I recently observed:
I have opened the file in SS6, (08.11.09.816) and activated the DV, and set the display style settings. The result is that there was no change in the mechanical components when the BV is engaged, and the display style are set to the same settings and when I toggle in the render mode fields the various styles, the components do not change. Even when the view is promoted or demoted there is no change if the BV is activated or not.

I have opened the file in SS5, (08.11.09.579) and activated the DV, then Promoting the view, and retaining the display style settings. The result is that when I toggle to the various render modes styles with the view promoted, some of the components change, but not all of them. But when I demote the view, retaining the display styles, toggling the various display aspects, all of the components change according to the selected rendered style.

I tested this issue with AECOsim SS6 Release Candidate.

Unfortunately the issue is still existing but the behavior is a little bit different to SS5.

Now the color of the insulation changes not to white but to the color of the duct itself. This is better than with SS5 but also wrong.

Building View OFF shows the right color of the insulation and also the correct transparency.

Building View ON show the wrong color of the insulation and no transparency.

Yesterday I tested the same example file with AECOsim SS4 with the same Dataset settings.

This issue do not happen with SS4.

I would suggest logging an SR with support for this. I've looked through your file and while I do see the behavior I haven't found any obvious cause, other than (I think) a connection to Display Styles. For example, by disabling the visible edge color override the black edges revert to their normal colors... though when not demoted this isn't necessary. Hmmm....

Yes, an example would probably be best. Your screen captures are showing that building attributes are being applied to the view, therefore Family/Part resymbolization + Display Style overrides would (or could) take place.

There are no Drawing Rules Activated.

In Family+Part the toggles for Cut Plane and Forward View are OFF and I do not have an active Clip Volume in this View.

And I tested the same file with the same Dataset settings in AECOsim SS4. The Mechanical Components didn't change its display like in SS5.

With a promoted Dynamic View as in the second image, the view window display is now based on Family + Part assignments, the designated Cut Plane and Forward View settings, as well as Drawing Rule overrides. So those are the aspects you need to review instead of the active Display Style.

For example, if you had a single line rule applied to the SV you would see single line resymbolization for components affected by that rule as in the attached.
