Replace Door and Window Number with Label in the future

Is is being considered to lose the current architectural rule for a door number (window No., Etc)

And use a cell with a label?

Then add t-way abilities with the Table??

I can create a door with a 2d symbol and would be able to add a Label????

They would stay put.

And what about auto sequencing so that when you change a door number in the table it corrects the rest sequentially

  • DataGroup Annotation (including Door and Window IDs) are cells with text. Architectural Drawing Rules simply scan the drawing and add these cells as set by the rule.

I have no idea what this means: "Then add t-way abilities with the Table??"

I also am unclear what's being described here: "I can create a door with a 2d symbol and would be able to add a Label????"

  • The t-way is a 2-way or two-way between the door number and the cell
So you can work in a table/spreadsheet/schedule to make changes to the schedule and the drawings
    That would be huge

The 2nd is - yes you can create a door with a number. But it is done poorly.
It moves, it duplicates and it created a large set of door numbers that are awkward when a door is added.
I move every one of the door numbers and a few dozen times I have to do this again.

When I create a compound cell I CAN place the door number in a location that fits 99% of the time and I can edit a cell the 2 tiles it does not.

PCS woudl also work but I will be glad when that product disappears.

  • As for the first item, ABD Ss6 introduces the ability to modify components via an exported schedule so I believe that would cover the ability to make edits to a spreadsheet and "push" those back to the 3D Model. Which in turn would update the annotation.

I'm not really following the second item; i.e., "...It moves, it duplicates and it created a large set of door numbers that are awkward when a door is added."

  • I can easily end up with 4 sets of duplicate door number

I move a door number or 100 door numbers to fint nicely on hte drawing. within the door swing instead ov overlapping other stuff. Then later in work they move back

Now I add a door next to door 5 - a new door to my other 125 doors. I want them to update the sequence when I chang ethat door to 5 and all the others bump up one. If the spreadsheet is now 2-way then then I can edit the spreadsheet quickly to update all the doors. Please let me know if this is possible as I don't have SS6 yet.

  • Yes, the upcoming bi-directional ability in Ss6 would allow you to modify the Door ID property values in Excel and push those changes back to the 3D Model. And then those changes would be reflected in the Drawing. From the simple test I just tried, the moved door ID labels were in their moved positions after running through those steps.

  • It is slightly interesting, that Excel's sophisticated abilities are being utilised in several areas, I seem to notice, by export/re-import, rather than trying to reproduce those facilitres within MS/AECOsim.

Could this spread to e.g. Dataset Explorer, so that column widths could auto-size themselves and cell contents (especially titles) could be set to Wrap, so the table could be compact and readable instead of excessively white-space, needing span multiple monitors - and those settings would endure till next time.
