However, another option would be to use the AHU Schematic tool - that one is set up to use cells: PAZ, BXC, CEL or RFA.

RE: ABD SIG: Creating the Mechanical Model

Thanks Steve, so do I conclude that these tools are not customizable at all?

RE: ABD SIG: Creating the Mechanical Model

Ah... I see. I'm no VB guy, but after a quick scan through the code for these two tools I get the feeling that there may be no cell associated with them, but rather the geometry (simply a Cone) may be generated on-the-fly.

Have you tried using the RFA Wizard to import your RFA file as an AHU? Not that I've ever tried, but it seems like something that may/should be doable. I think.

RE: ABD SIG: Creating the Mechanical Model

Steve,

There are 2 icons for Round AHUs - AHU1 and 2. Both place the same (or what appear to be the same) compound cell. What I would like to know is:

Can I change the default compound cell associated with those tools? (basically understand how those tools work, there is no name to the compound cell and therefore hard to figure out...)

If yes, I have imported via the RFA wizard a real AHU with a lot more detail like fans etc. Can this be used to replace the (pretty basic) default...

Danny's last post outlined an alternate method when only Length was available during placement, but Round AHU's have Length and Diameter (effectively height+width).

RE: ABD SIG: Creating the Mechanical Model

What about Round AHUs (AHU 1 and 2 tools), there is no cell to fall back to (compound cell but no name)... We are tryin to change the default (piece of pipe) to a Revit-imported RFA that includes a fan etc. Any idea?

RE: ABD SIG: Creating the Mechanical Model

A question was asked in the morning session about changing the height and width of an AHU because in the DataGroup Instance dialog there's only a field for Total Length.

There are two ways to place an AHU:
One way is to use one of the standard AHU tools under the HVAC Equipment task. This way allows you to define the Total Length of the AHU and then it derives the other dimensions from the Cell that gets placed. You could open up the cell library that these cells exist in and edit the proportions of your cell there to adjust how tall or wide the AHU will be for a given length.

The second way is to use the Place Content tool and choose AHU_Schematic for the Instance Data Type (icon that looks like a hierarchy tree) in the dialog. This will allow you to define all of the properties for that piece of equipment.
