desktop resolution

Hello All

I am new to AECOsim. After years of using of Microstation I assume that it is a natural step forward, which sooner or later we all must make. It is not easy. I installed it on my laptop. The native resolution of my desktop is 3200x1800 on a 15" screen. It is first of my problems. Some or a lot of the names of the icons, commands, symbols are hardly readable. Some of the buttons in openable menus appear over the content and are "hard" to be pressed. I have already played with preferences without success.

It probably cannot be fixed just like that but I would be grateful if anyone knows a solution for this. Changing the resolution does not help.

with best regards

  • Hi Wojtek,
I assume that changing the icons sizes from medium to large in Workspace > Preferences > Look and Feel has not helped, even the 32x 32 icons would be pretty small at that resolution on a 15" screen.
Try the Windows Display Control Panel > Change the size of all items.

  • Hi Marc,

    Thanks for the answer.
I have tried different windows settings. It never worked well. I guess it is the application behaviour on hi res screens. I found quite a few comments like this in internet referring to different applications. In general - some of them do well with hi resolution screen while other not. It seems that AECOsim does not.

  • Hi Nasir,

The laptop has 2 graphic cards. One is Intel's and mother board integrated. Second one is NVIDIA Quadro. Bentley's applications are set to use NVIDIA. Irrespective of this I have only one refresh rate. And I still believe that the problem is in the Bentley software itself.
Maybe if it is not too late the problem could be solved with SS6

  • Hello
I can only sympathise at this point. But this is one of the things that has so far put me off getting a higher resolution monitor. Already on a laptop with a 1920 x 1080 res, I'm finding some of the icons too small. One hopes that Bentley will address this soon as there are now some 4K monitors available at approachable prices.

  • There are two places to affect the size of your buttons.

One is with Windows resolution for all buttons. I have tried the Medium as I have hires monitors also and they will get bigger (my next is a 42" that is touch screen) Go to Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Display.
This worked most of the time but I did find issues with Mstation not working on some tasks. You have three size options.

Secondly you can go into Microstation - Workspace - Preferences Look and Feel and change the Tool Size and View Tool Size

  • Hi Eric,

I have tried them already. Windows settings seem not to effect Microstation, at least in the way I would expect them. The problem with these settings is that they effect all application. MS office for example works just fine as it is, while Microstation don't. Whenever I try to change them - "enlarge buttons" - so it becomes easier to work with Microstation I loose clear layout of the MS menus, and the size of those buttons becomes ridiculous. I hope I explained it clearly.

When it comes to preferences settings in Microstation itself - mine are already set to large. What's more - the icons of element selection menu are extremely small and do not correspond with the size of the box. The same refers to the Tasks menu on the left hand side - the size of the text vs. the button size. I can't make it work and look readable no matter what the settings are.

  • Jsut making sure all was explored. My screens are as big as yours but the Large Microstation Icons help for me and the windows at $150% also work for me. The prolems as I have crashing in Microstation due to the Windows scale.
