What is the role of a 'BIM Manager'?

What is the role of a 'BIM Manager'? Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

  • Thoughts and comments on this would be appreciated.
  • It would be different for the firm and what level they are getting into.

for my offices it has been a BIM Modeling expert. As beyond parts and families and just now Datagroup Catalogs. We don't care about the rest. And those that do will have to wait for our industry to catch up.

  • I don't see it as a single role, rather distributed responsibility between the CAD Manager and Drafting Manager. Another more is just doubling up IMO.

  • In our BIM Manager Workshops we discuss the many roles of BIM Management and emphasize that, unlike CAD Management, there is usually not a single person that fulfills all those roles.

These roles include, but are not limited to:

    • Team Leader
      • Leads coordination meetings, team motivator, sets expectations, evaluates progress
    • Training Coordinator
      • Mentors less experienced users, coordinates or delivers training, defines Learning Paths for others
    • BIM Pit Manager
      • Sets schedule and logistics, runs QC, facilitates lessons learned, leads the workflow
    • Model/Data Manager
      • Makes sure standards are followed, QA/QC on submittals, coordinates 'corporate' BIM content and standards & configuration
    • Software Manager
      • Manages software installations, upgrades and corresponding hardware requirements.  Might manage configurations
    • PE/A & PM Advisor
      • Sets expectations and guidance for PE's, PA's & PM's,
    • Visionary
    • Looks at how to better leverage software, look for added value for clients, etc.
    • Facilitator

    I hope this helps.
