Does Bentley have a "BIM Deployment Plan"

Does Bentley have a "BIM Deployment Plan" for implementing BIM in companies to help deliver projects faster, more cost-effectively, and more sustainably?

Parents
  • Is this something that Bentley provide or do i need to look elsewhere?
  • Hi,
are you asking for an AECOsim Implementation Plan?
The BIM (AECOsim) deployment plan should not be confused with the BIM Execution Plan.
AECOsim deployment will deal with the software specifics, and should be part of the Company specific Protocols.
It can deal with the model management, project standards, line styles, parts and families, datagroup properties to be contained within every object etc. if you are looking for a project deployment.
FOr the software deployment per se, there are many guides around but standards are already delivered and can be changed to suit your requirements.
The BIM Execution Plan will be project-wide and will not deal necessarily with AECOsim only (potentially and most probably other design authoring platforms will be also used which is not a problem from Bentley perspective, i-models/IFC or other formats can be leveraged).
Additionally BEP will provide the guidance for Common Data Environment, workflows, design reviews, quality assurance, dates, tasks etc. Will also contain the Level of Detail/Definition/Development. For the UK definitions you can look at what NBS is doing in this field www.thenbs.com/bimtoolkit. The toolkit will be soft released the next month.
For the US specific you can look at the BIM Forum https://bimforum.org/lod/ . Although they have not been active for a while now.

Some Protocols can be found here.

For the USA BEPs you can see http://bim.psu.edu/

Ultimately on the LEARN server you can find my lecture about Execution Planning

If you specify further what would like to see in a "deployment plant" we could help you better.

P.s. I you wish to learn about the BIM Implementation you can join one of our BIM Management Workshops.

  • It is from the larger clients and not the majority. They have rigorous setup but many are propietary and set and stubborn. the suggestions I see help all the small firms and DO NOT impact the large. win win for all but for the most part a win for Bentley in the market place. that benefits us all as the smaller firms are getting pushed out of Bentley toward other popular products to compete. come on Bentley we are family, embrace your family and let;'s propser to together. We on the forum are more than blog support.

  • Dominic - I think we are heading in the same direction but I don't think it needs to be so complicated.
I'd solve the problems here for first of 1-100 first then larger firms. Make it work well for the single guy then small office and up to project wise for multiple locations and such. don't start from the top down as again it is not that complicated.

Much of what project wise does I've never needed though created output beyond most. Project wise has it;s place but the way the software ir organized and set up before a Dataset gets involved is just not there for everyone. And the Datasetup had 10 differnt ways to do the same thing but NOT ONE WAY that has been fully vetted and works for all from start of an idea to the lifecycle of that product.

  • Jakub,

Marc and yourself had great answers to the question. Kudos! I think it would be great if Bentley would put the BIM Execution Planning videos on You Tube. Not only would the ease of access be a great benefit for BIM users in general, but it would be great marketing exposure for Bentley.
  • Hi Tom,
I might be doing a webinar about the BIM Execution planning very soon.
follow me on twitter to be up to date ;)

@ can you please give us an example a " BIM implementation plan" that you have in mind? Maybe from other companies?
Is your "implementation" software" specific? or do you consider the human factor of the implementation?
After the installation and basic configuration every "implementation" will be different.
  • Hi Jakub,

I am trying to reach out to you on Linkedln about AECOSIM bim plan.

My project needs a bim plan and it is in AECOSIM. Do you think you can help me with a bim implementation/execution plan?

    Thanks

    Hannah
