SS6 download problem

Trying every which way to get to fulfillment center to download AECOsim SS6 but nothing works. Can anyone please provide a link that is tested to work?

  • Is the link working at all for you or is it just slow? select.bentley.com/.../LTEyMzE5NjgyOTdfNC4wLjIuMA;ProductLineID=6&ReleaseTypeId=167
I'm able to download the file although it is still in progress here. If needed, I can post the file to Bentley Share File for you if the Fulfillment site isn't working at all.

  • Thanks, remember that next time. But can't imagine why extensions should get renamed.
Still can't get to downloads, and several non-Bentley sites, as described above - but successfully installed SS6 via the old laptop, where web access is normal. Any ideas?
  • Did you try clearing your browsing history and internet cache? In Internet Explorer this can be done from Tools (Alt-x) > Internet Options > Browsing History > Delete.
Another thing to try is to force a full reload of the page that gives the error by hitting the F5 key but this is essentially the same as clearing your cache above.

Otherwise it could be an add-on program that is causing the issue. Try the following to see if you can isolate the issue:
    To temporarily disable add-ons:
    a. in Internet Explorer go Tools (Alt-x) > Internet Options > Programs (tab) > Manage Add-ons
    b. Highlight the top add-on then (Shift click) on the bottom add-on to highlight them all.
    c. Right Click > Disable All

If when you try to load the Internet page again it mode works fine then an add-on could be causing the issue. You will need to re-enable each one (process of elimination) to determine which one(s) is causing the issue. Let us know how you get on.

  • The problems described in this topic, and in communities.bentley.com/.../105642 which it continued from, starting 24 March 2015 and affecting both my computers, were mainly about major problems with the bentley.com site incl BeCommunities. I could not download AECOsim SS6 or even install it from an install file Dropbox'd to me.

It plagued me right through to last week - neither Bentley (on this forum and by SR), my ISP, or my local IT shop could solve it. No virus could be found. Both machines were re-formatted and reistalled - still same. My IT guy came to site and fiddled for hours, incl disabling Avira my anti-virus.

Last week I uninstalled Avira - BeCommunities instantly went perfect! (I now have SS6 installed at last). It was a 3-seat edition of a new version of Avira, installed 18 March 2015 (see date in first para above), and I had 2 copies, same license code, installed on the 2 computers. The weird thing is, as soon as I uninstalled it from one computer (now temporarily using the MS free AV), BeCommunities on the other one also instantly went perfect, even though Avira is still on it. The only communication between the 2 computers is via the internet/router.

Before talking to Avira about this, the fact remains that there is something about the bentley.com site which Avira doesn't like. I just occasionally saw it on other big complicated sites, but bentley.com 100%.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi Tom,
I access bentley.com every day from multiple devices and browsers and have not seen any persistent connection or speed issues during the period you mention.
The fact that you were unable to install from a file sent to you by sharefile, cannot access some other sites and the "weird thing" described above, suggests something specific to your main PC possibly related to Avira. If the failed install was due to an incomplete download then that suggests some connectivity problem or interruption. A quick Google showed at least one result where Avira slowed Firefox "to a crawl".

FWIW www.w3.org/Protocols describes 400 errors as:
    400 Bad Request
The request could not be understood by the server due to malformed syntax. The client SHOULD NOT repeat the request without modifications.

There are a number of solutions to 400 errors online relating to various browsers and versions.

  • Yeah Marc no one else was having these problems or could reproduce them. Nearly everything else was working fine incl downloading/installing things - really only 'anything bentley.com' was 95% u/s. Affected FF, IE and Chrome.

The SS6 download/install failed because, of the prerequisites, one failed and the rest were skipped, even when Cadventure Dropbox'd them to me separately - or rather they did then install but apparently uninstalled again when I re-ran the main install file. As soon as Avira was uninstalled, SS6 installed perfectly from same files.

If interested, see the various message screenshots in http://communities.bentley.com/help/f/9549/t/105642
