Combine Files

Dear Bentley,

We try to combine all the attachments from the separate/different folder to a new single folder without copying the file for attachments to put in the new single folder.

Kindly assist.

  • Which Bentley application are you using? Also, can you elaborate on the exact steps you are following and the result you are trying to achieve?

  • Do you mean you are referencing many files into one file. And all your files are in different directories.
If yes that is great - just make sure you either save the full path or relative path which is probably better.

  • We are using AECOSim Select Series 4.We have copy the structure, architectural and m & e model from the different folder to the one single master model to enable the reference to master model are visible/display when this single master folder ship from one terminal to another terminal/pc.Thereafter kindly assist if we could copy the reference without doing the copying operation from the different folder to the single master folder?
  • I still don't understand fully.

But if you reorganize all your folders (or not) and then you create a new Master Model that is totally new.
Then you would reference all files into that folder
Not by FOLDER as implied in the original question
But one at a time. (You can grab all that are in that folder but you must keep hitting at least enter to have them all attached)
Then go to the next folder and repeat.

Your dgn files can all be in one folder or preferably many sub folders to help organize work.

Make sure your references either remember the full path or a relative path which I prefer. The later helps if you change a drive letter. It can avoid the resetting up of all your files as long as they maintain the same RELATIVE LOCATION as before.

  • As with Eric I'm not entirely sure I understand what you are trying to achieve, but is it to have the reference attachments available within the master file, regardless of which machine the master file is opened, without having to copy/move those reference DGNs all into the same folder?
