How to place parametric Cell? Can anyone provide an example of code?

Now I want to place a paz cell which is created by PCS.Before placing,I need to set its variable(e.g. length, height).

  • What Kind of cell are you placing?

No code required but you do use the placement dialog box to enter available variable values.

  • Dear Mr Milberger, thank you for your reply. The cell I want to place is a parametric cell that is published from Parametric Cell Studio. Now I want to implement a function. This function is passed an absolute path of a file that has a .paz suffix and several variables that belong to the parametric cell.It returns an element which the caller can manipulate.
  • Ok this one will have to be polished by Bentley
But you to get this into a catalog
then open the catalog and a dialog but which allows you to change the variables.

The the catalogs already there for placing things line fire equipment. Same process.

  • Dou you mean Bentley has not been intending to publish the technology of parametric cell at present?
  • I don't follow. Currently you create a parametric cell. for doors and windows this is easy. for something else you (and this is where I get rusty as I do this once a year) you create a catalog and put your item in the catalog. From that point it works just fine. There is NO programming involved. (Other than the challenge of using PCS) Thre creation of a catalog and getting it to work is NOT straight forward nor logical. But very doable.

I was suggesting you take a look at the catalogs like curtainwalls, plumbing, fireprotection, signage, as these are all cells. Many are PCS cells, that do what you ask. There is no programming.

I hope someone from Bentley might chime in on a WIKI or some article on how to get the PCS into a catalog (Step by step) and in english. And then to open for placement.
