SS6 constantly crashing when applying a Saved View

Hello

As the title, .... in SS6, it's relentlessly crashing when I apply a Saved View

This is with models that I have been using for about 3 years. First in MS SS2 and BA SS1, the AECOSim SS5. I never had this problem with them. But as soon as I moved the project to SS6, .... bang.

This is very worrying, ..... some of them aren't even based on Clip Volumes, just 'standard' Saved Views.

Anyone else having this problem?

I might add that the 'workflow' involves a dgn file with mutliple models. Each model then has a single Saved View in it. Typically then, applying the Saved View means changing to another model. Though when I use the 'Models Dialog' to swap from 1 model to another, it doesn't crash

Puzzling (and annoying/infuriating)

  • I don't believe this has been a commonly reported issue in Ss6, or at least it's nothing I recall seeing before.

Has your dataset been updated for Ss6? Have you tried renaming your \prefs folder just in case? Any recent changes on the Windows side of things or with drivers?

  • Hello Steve
I'm using the fresh/new Dataset that comes with SS6
I actually only have a very small number of elements that have Datset info attached (some steel sheets)
These use the Family+Part P4 - A-P414 Steel, protected steel, with the 'material' painted white' (or something similar)
I suspect (hope) this is related to another issue I'm having with the materials showing up in any shaded View Display Style, even though I have the materials turned OFF in the Dsiplay Style. I will put up futher info in another forum topic

  • I've had a look at the files you uploaded last night. If I try and apply a 3D model saved view to a 2D sheet model (by double-clicking the saved view in the Saved views dialog, then applying with a data point in the model) I get a crash, otherwise things seem to behave normally. Is this the sequence you are using?
I have tried the same sequence in some of my other test files but I can't reproduce the behaviour.
Did you use the Callout tools to create your drawings?

    Regards

    Marc

  • Hello Marc
yes, I am double-clicking the Saved View in the Saved Views Dialog, then applying a Datapoint in the View Window. This is also happening when applying the Saved View in the file it was created in. Typically this would switch to another model in that same file
No I didn't use callouts. A few of them are using a Clip Volume, but many are not. Just a 'basic' Saved View with Levels ON/OFF.
The ones that use a Clip Volume normally were using an architectural View Seed (which I'd rather not use, but it seems by default you are aobliged to, ..... I'm a bit 'suspicious' of these and would rather avoid them for the time being, ..... but that's another topic)
I used this same files in SS2 (and before) without this problem. I tried a fresh install and copied those files in to the as-delivered workspace, still got the same behaviour, .... this was even when creating the various 'Views', Drawing Templates (as I'm calling them, ... essentially using the Drawing Model Seed) in the as-delivered Workspace
Have you tried applying the Saved Views in the model files? There should be 2 Saved Views and 2 models per file (1 Saved View per model)
I did also get a couple of crashes when dragging the Saved View from the Saved View Dialog, on to the Sheet

  • Danny,
Just as a quick test, what happens when using a delivered dataset and/or temporarily removing any custom parts from your dataset?

  • Steve
This was using the as-delivered Dataset. The models in question only uses 1 part (P-414Steel). I'n SS5 I think I created 1 custom part (just as a tester, didn't get beyond that), and I don't believe I actually used it in the project
I can switch between models, and pretty much each time I do that, I am effectively switching to the Saved View, as it is set up to have 1 Saved View per model. Effectively the model = the View and vice-versa.
This doesn't crash at all, and I've now resorted to doing that, then if need be, adjust the contents, then update the Saved View. So I'm pretty sure it's the 'applying' of the Saved View that is doing it

  • Hmm... If you have a minute - how about importing that Saved View into a new DGN file; what happens when applying there?
