Plan for ABD on Connect

Is there a timetable for when ABD will be available on Connect?

There is, but it's a little too soon to talk about specific dates.

The efforts to port Ss6 to the new platform are under way. It's no small task but it's coming along pretty well so far.

We're also working on getting the Task menu switched to the Ribbon (and a few other little UI cleanup efforts). We expect to start usability testing on the new layouts before the product is completely running (can people find the commands and are they grouped to prevent having to move between tabs in the middle of a workflow?), probably in the next month or so.

I'll be posting here for people to help out when we're getting close to that point (or I can just add your name to the group of people who have already said they were interested).

  • Tom Waltz, When you guys are ready for Beta testing, count me in.
  • It's good to hear your acclimating to the new UI, Duncan!

It's definitely a big change, so hopefully what you see in ABD CONNECT (when available) will provide the same level of efficiency you're already putting in place.... or perhaps even more. :)

  • Yes I did, and found that I still had to waist time like I do with the current menu. Realize This is just a different menu so it had better make things faster. Also part of the issue is that I have to work on different machines and many will not be upgraded to connect for years. so working in essence in two different programs on the same tasks hurts the production in both. The same problem that seems to NEED to happen every 5 years or so.

Currently I can create small buttons toolboxes - three screen width rows that handle all day to day action for ABD/2d/3d
I can't do that with the limitations of the ribbon and I don't have some buttons in my toolboxes as they are not made available by ABD.

So neither are perfect. Prior to the menus we have in ABD 5. In the previous version I had access to ALL buttons and had all the functions I would ever use across the top and left of my main screen.

So it is not a complaint of the ribbon but the necessity to relearn a new product that might follow the same production paths of the current menu system and never be finished.

I also use products like adobe daily. All the new commands you use in ABD now create a whole section set that do the same thing but with different keys everywhere. So NO I have not been able to pic up all the little extras as they comflict and the Connect version we worked on was not finished. And some of those keyins you mentions worked one way at one place and another for another place and slowed adoption or created inconsitancies and hampered production.

  • Tom - I like to hear what you are telling me. It sounds as if you get my drift. I just want it to be like the goal for our original MENUs.
NO MORE THAN TWO CLICKS TO DRAW SOMETHING. I think I was up to 6 clicks in the EAP.

    John,
I don't know why that is. I'll ask the site admin about it.

You are in for a bigger change than most. We've done some major cleanup on the mechanical tools.

    Tom,

I really haven't had a chance to play around with Update 1 yet but I did notice in the ReadMe that the only mechanical changes were a couple of fittings.  When you say "major cleanup" were you referring to things added or things fixed?  If it's things fixed then is there a list somewhere of what was fixed?  Thanks.

my comment was in reference to changes coming in Connect Edition, not Update 1.

    Just a quick update:
Yes, we are still planning a round of usability labs soon and yes, we are running later than I had originally planned on started them :-)
