Hello
In SS6, there seems to a mvoe to towards have all the/most of the resources/dgnlibs either in the 'Project Level Dataset' (which is in the Project folders under support\dataset)
Or in the Default/Company wide Dataset (the as-delivered one in the UK is called Dataset_GB. For the record, I have made a copy of this, renamend it 'Dataset_My Company, and hopefully, pointed to that instead of the Dataset_GB)
Previously, it was my understanding to have the standard/company wide resources/dgnlibs in the 'Standards dgnlibs'. One would 'point' to these using various cfgs set in the standards.cfg file.
Is this file now pretty much redundant? As it seem you are now prompted to store the the required dgnlibs with the 'Company Dataset' and Project Dataset'.
Hi Danny,
The AECOsim Building Designer specific dgnlibs as delivered are in either the regional dataset:
e.g.: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\BuildingDatasets\Dataset_GB\dgnlib
or the project dataset:
e.g.: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\Projects\BuildingExamples\BuildingTemplate_GB\support\dataset\dgnlib
The C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\Standards\dgnlib folder exists for use when workspaces are shared with other applications that may not need access to these dgnlibs.
If you are configuring for only AECOsim Building Designer you can put any custom dgnlibs in either site or project dgnlib folders. You may wish to add a separate set of company dataset folders to isolate your custom resources from the delivered dataset rather than simply copying and changing the delivered dataset.
The variables set in the delivered standards.cfg can be used in your site configuration to point to the appropriate locations
Some initial guidance on that can be found in ABD SS6 - Adding Company Dataset Folders.
In the past I have built custom configurations with extensive changes to the delivered files. Such an approach requires all changes to be carefully reviewed at every subsequent upgrade which can be quite time consuming. I have since adopted a lighter touch approach where the delivered files and structures are left intact, applying customisation downstream providing a clearer solution that is easier to maintain in the long term. This is demonstrated (but not proscribed!) by ABD SS6 - QuickConfig.
Regards
Marc
