ACS Lock not working properly

Hello

I'm getting problems with the ACS Lock and the Active Floor not functioning as they should.

With the Locks ON, all you have to do is rotate Accudraw (using 'E'), then you can continue to draw/model along the Accudraw plane, which in no longer on the active Floor or ACS (with Locks ON)

Am I missing something here? This is with 'Contect Sensitivity' OFF

It's actually worse with 'Context Sensitivity' ON, as this then 'jumps' you out of the active ACS, ..... usually the ACS drop down will change to 'Custom', ..... so at least you know you are no longer in the named ACS, ..... though the Floor Manager still tells you that you are using Floor 01 (or whichever it is). Sometimes the ACS drop down does not change, and it still looks like you are in the active ACS.

Can anyone confirm this behaviour? It's very annoying and is seriously reducing the effectiveness of the whole ACS system.

  • Changing active floor will set the active ACS to that of the active floor.
If you rotate the AccuDraw compass it will allow you to work perpendicular (F or S rotations) to the active floor for the duration of the current operation. Once that operation is complete AccuDraw will return to the active floor.
Turning off 'Context Sensitivity' will result in the AccuDraw compass sticking to x/y orientation and not rotating to match any elements placed at other angles, I suggest 'Context Sensitivity' is left On.

However I do see the behaviour you report with Context Sensitivity On. Once the AccuDraw Compass is rotated the ACS is displayed as Unnamed in the ACS dialog and CUSTOM in the Drawing Scale dialog. These do not revert to the active ACS (in the case of ABD this will most often be the active floor) along with the AccuDraw Compass once the 'off plane' operation is complete. This is the same behaviour as MicroStation and is not specific to ABD Floors.

As the active ACS values remain at their previous values (unless a new ACS is saved during the current operation) and only the ACS label is changed this may be considered to be a defect. I will see if I can find out whether this behaviour has a particular design intention behind it.

Turning Context Sensitivity Off is an option if you don't need the other behaviours it provides.

  • Hello
'If you rotate the AccuDraw compass it will allow you to work perpendicular (F or S rotations) to the active floor for the duration of the current operation. Once that operation is complete AccuDraw will return to the active floor.'
I'm not getting this behaviour, .... Accudraw does not return to the active Floor/ACS. It stays where it is, ... you select another tool, and you start drawing/modelling where Accudraw is, .... some way off/away from the Active ACS (which is still locked ON)
It's also very odd (wrong?) that when you roate Accudraw, it still says in the ACS drop down menu, that you are in ACS SSL3 (for example). I must admit I always though an ACS was an origin, and an orientation. Surely if you change the Accudraws's orientation, then you are no longer using that ACS.
I was under the impression (back in XM), that when you rotated Accudraw, it would 'jump' you out of the active ACS, then the drop down would say 'Custom ACS'. Maybe that was only when you moved the Origin. Can't really say for sure
The Help Manual seems a little unclear on this topic (to me anyway)

Yes, .... I'd prefer to not have to bother with 'Context Sensitivity', but there has been a long-standing glitch/bug with the 'Modify Solid Entity' tool that requires it to be ON, otherwise it goes haywire (not entirely resolved in SS6 it would seem), .... that's another topic.

'This is the same behaviour as MicroStation and is not specific to ABD Floors.'
Yes, .... I was just bringing the Floors in to it as the Floors automatically create and ACS, and turn the Locks ON. Surely the whole point of having Floors, is that you do indeed want to anchor/fix, ..... Lock, ..... the placement of objects on the Floor
You should not be able to rotate Accudraw away/off from that Floor/ACS, and place objects at locations/levels that are not on that Floor/ACS, when the ACS Lock is ON. .......... clearly indicating that you are supposedly placing objects on that Floor/ACS plan (when you are in fact not!)

  • Danny, does the behavior you're seeing change if you first right-click on the active ACS and choose Toggle View Independent?
