AECOsim SS6 Datagroup user defiened Item properties value cant be displayed/ shown corretly in item browser/ dg explorer??

Hej Guys,

this is an issue making all my previous work getting close to useless:(

I have made a paz cell in PCS with all the necessary variables and expressions. I have made two type of variables, the first one, is the user input variables, which means when I am placing the cell as user defined items in AECOsim, I need to keyin the values to make sure the item has all the correct dimension etc.

I also made some other varables as results from some equations/calculations (they are set to non editable in datagroup system). fx. for a cube, i need to keyin the value of the edages: a, b and c when I am placing the item. as the result, I will get it created in AECOsim, and plus, the varable volumn will get the volumn of the cube by using the formular v= axbxc. or I key in top and bottom elevations for an extrusion path, and getting the length as variable value as: length=top elev.-bottom elev.....

it works prefectly after I ve created the object. and if I use modify user defiend item function. I can see all the result values displayed correctly. Great!!! BUT!!!! when I am trying to make some schedule/export to excel via item set or dg explorer, all the sudden all these calculated values are GONE!!! there are only 0s left for me.....

here are the pics of item and dgexplorer I am talking about:

Highlighted values are all come from paz cell, and are the result of calculations based on other keyin values. and they are set to be non editable in dg catalog. all the values are correct in this modify user defined item dialog box......

but in dg explorer, all the values are still 0......

can anyone please tell me if  there is an explaination on it and more important, is there a way to walk around so that i can get the values into dg explorer??

thanks a lot

Leo

  • Leo,
    You are doing everything correctly.
For some reason, SS6 DG Explorer doesn't report "calculated" values from a paz cell.
I noticed it with our custom doors. Thankfully before migrating several projects
I filed service ticket #7000404036 which resulted in defect 295730. I just received defect number today.

FYI, same thing happens in SS5.

However, Most of our projects use SS4 (version 08.11.09.627)
and 'calculated" values display correctly in DG explorer.

  • thanks a lot Tom, its really good that I can get backup from an expert like you.
I have made some test today, all the varaibles in PCS with the type: length (both keyin and calculated values) are working very well in SS6s item browser NOT dg explorer. which means I can export a calculated length from item browser to excel......OK for now.
varaibles in PCS defined as angle are having a hard time displaying in SS6s item browser. if in definition editor, the same varaible is set to String type, it will not work, but decimal type will do the work. but value will be converted from degrees to radius.....maybe OK??
And there is no match type in PCS to volumn unit in definition editor...... so any calculated value (fx. axbxc in PCS) as volumn can only be displayed as working unit type in dg catalog, in item browser....
and all the results mentioned above only works in item browser and the new dg explorer is totally dead......
Its maybe ok with me so far. as we are doing a test BIM project in the company and turning in the first BIM model in 2 weeks.....but I am bit worried how I should convience all my colleagues to stick on AECOsim if one of the major BIM tools are only working 50% of what it is expected.... because we just made a simliar test in Revit, and its object browser/schedule function works very good ( on a scale of over 1200 pieces of steel columns).
Sry, I am not verifying the answer now. I really want more Bentley people can see this problem, and fix it as soon as possible.

    thanks again Leo
  • hej Tom, just checked it again. I think angle type varabiles cant be used in dg system.... because there is a matching type in defintion editor. and forcing the varabile into decimal or string type. gets an error: Catalog information not appended..... creation failed...
I think definition editor is missing a property type as angle(degree or radius.....)...
wow, I really should spend that much time on this and digging so deep:(
  • Hi all,

This issue was reported to Development and they are aware of the problem.

  • Leo,
Try using Data Type "Working Units" when creating Datagroup Property Definition that you are going
to associate with angle variable from paz cell.
