wall catalog types

I've created a new catalog type to keep my company-wall datagroup separated from the delivered dataset. However, the catalog items do not show up in the place wall command. How can I get them to show up?

can you tell us what version of ABD you're using and what steps you took to create the catalog items? (or, can you post your definition and catalog item XML files so we can take a look?)

If you're using Ss6 the rough steps should be
    1) In the Catalog Type Definition dialog, set the Tool Template of your new Catalog Type to "Place Wall" (you can add more definitions if you want)
    2) In the Catalog Editor to add Catalog Items to your new Catalog Type.

  • Still on Ss5 sorry...

Well, I created a new catalog type with insert>catalog type -> The destination file is a new one created on the network

I attached the same definitions that I found in the walls catalog type, also in a new destination file created on the network, except for:

    - thermal resistance

    - Acoustics

    - Fire resistance

    - Object Phasing

I created new items using insert>catalog item

I'll send you the xmls. Here is what goes where:

    - Catalog types xml: coba_paredes

    - Attached definitions xml: COBA_Dataset_catalogtypeexts

    - Catalog items xml: ParedeBetao

in that case, what you're trying to do won't work. Walls only gained support for user-defined Catalog Types in Ss6. I'm sorry, it slipped my mind that it was added in Ss6; I was thinking that it was just the UI to make it easier.

In Ss5, you could add new catalog items to the existing "Wall" Catalog Type, but not new Catalog Types to the Wall Tool. In Ss5, only some of the structural tools supported user-defined Catalog Type. In Ss6, the Wall, Slab, and Profile tool gained support for them.

I can see why it would be confusing. The Catalog Editor doesn't point out that the type you created won't be visible in any of the tools, so you can make new Catalog Items all day long and they won't be used by the Wall tool.

  • Ok, got it.

What I ended up doing was creating my walls in the wall type already delivered but using a set of xml files that are separated from the original ones everywhere I could. The original dataset is on the network also. Is this a good way of separating my wall objects from the delivered?
  • Setting up a Catalog Organization filter for the Place Wall tool may help if you have some specific property that distinguishes your custom walls.    The delivered Help file also includes a few entries for this topic under "catalog organization".
