ABD SS5: When placing Fitted Section some reference files disappear.

The tool works OK in SS4 (see second image). Also seems to be project specific. Promote/demote views doesn't seem to affect it (just thought I'd try). Also tried various seeds (arch section, plan, etc) to no avail.

Thanks,

  • Hi Pat,
It's difficult to tell what's happening from the images... The second one appears to use a Hidden mode display style while the first is using Wireframe, but beyond that I'm not sure where to start. I'm assuming the walls are what's not being display in the first image (Ss5), so does that mean if the view is Demoted and the Clip Volume turned off, then the walls come back?

  • I should have been more descriptive. The second is clip volume by 2 points, the first is by "place fitted section". The structural model disappears (a reference), as do the walls in the active model. Neither was wireframe. I've made a couple snips of the setting before placing, so you can see what steps I'm taking. Oh, and Promote/Demote view doesn't seem to work - when I click Demote, nothing changes and the button does not change to Promote. Works fine in SS4.

This third image is what I get when the Fitted Section is applied. Structural reference is gone, as are the walls.

Clip Volume by 2 points works OK:

Obviously the reference file is still showing, as are the walls.

We get the same results on other workstations, so I don't think its the settings on my machine, but maybe. Interesting, I opened another model for a different project, and the Fitted Section works OK, although the Demote View button doesn't change anything or revert to Promote View when clicked.

Could it be something in the seed file or configuration settings?

I'd really like to get this resolved; once we change our workflow from Extractions to Dynamic Views, its going to be critical that this works properly.

    Thanks,

    Pat

  • Yes, I believe it is something related to the Drawing Seed. When using a Fitted Section a Drawing Seed is selected, and that Drawing Seed determines the Saved View settings (which can certainly override the active view settings). But when placing by Two Points there is no Drawing Seed involved, so the active view settings are all that can be used.

Can you confirm that placing a Section callout (vs. fitted section) using the same Drawing Seed results in the same behavior? I'd imagine it would but it would be best to check. I would also try a Plan and Elevation to see whether those Drawing Seeds are behaving the same as or differently than the Section.

  • We tried different drawing seeds (Arch - Building Section etc.) from the drop down, but same results. When placing the section callout andcreate the drawing, this is what I get:

  • Do you have an example DGN file(s) and Drawing Seed DGNLib you could post?
