Is it possible to add instance data to an element from Microstation, so that the volume of the element is included in Datagroup explorer?
I know that I could technically take this information out through Family/Part & quantify, but it would be so much simpler if it could be done via. instance data. So that I can have all of my quantity data in one place. Another reason this would be great, is that datagroup data is exported into the 3D PDF and .imodel format. Where Family / Part data is not.
These are special elements that cannot be made with the ABD tools. I don't care about length/height and so on. Only volume.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but as long as DataGroup data is included in the 3D PDF using the 3D Plotting > Include Properties option:
Then any element that includes the "Part Definition" property (ObjectMaterial schema) will display the applicable Family:Part in the PDF. Walls and Slabs are examples of objects that include this property by default, though I suppose you could manually add it to others if needed.
Hello Steve
I export 3D PDF's from ABD with the method you describe above.
The problem is that when I add datagroup data to a normal Microstation smart solid, I am able to attach data to it, but it will not calculate the volume of the element. As an alternative I am using Family / Part definitions to calculate volumes through quantify. I can use this method to get a nice excel sheet with all volumes.
So when I export to 3D PDF I would like to be able to see those volumes when I click the element. I can see all of the other attached information, but not the volume.
Is this something I can set up as a new object type through datagroup explorer?
