We have a little question about seeds in ABD. We want customize the seed files but When we open the seed folder inside the dataset we find a lot of files and we are a little bit confused.
DesignSeed.dgn We understand that is the simple/basic template file to create design models. To customize we can change view attributes, designs units an so on... Is that right? We also assume that:- DesignSeed_Electrical.dgn- DesignSeed_Electrical_imp.dgn- DesignSeed_Electrical_meters.dgn- DesignSeed_meters.dgn- DesignSeed_Structural.dgn- DesignSeed_Structural_meters.dgnare individual and independent variations of this DesignSeed.dgn seed file. We can choose them if we want.
DrawingSeed.dgn We understand that is the simple/basic template file to create drawing models. To customize it we can change view attributes, display styles, designs units an so on... Is that right? We also assume that: - DrawingSeed_DEM.dgnis an individual and independent variation of this DrawingSeed.dgn seed file. We can choose it if we want.
SheetSeed.dgn We understand that is the simple/basic template file to create sheet models. To customize it we can change view attributes, display styles, a attach a border, change designs units an so on... Is that right? We also assume that: - SheetSeed_ANSI.dgn- SheetSeed_ARCH.dgn- SheetSeed_ISO.dgnare individual and independent variations of this SheetSeed.dgn seed file with borders attached and different formats. We can choose it if we want.
But we don't understand what is Design_and_Sheets_Seed.dgn. Inside we can find different design and sheet models. What is this seed used for? It has dependencies on the other simple seeds?
Lot of thanks
Hi Borja, For the DesignSeeds, where are you seeing those specific files? I don't believe any of the delivered datasets include all of them. But in general, yes, a DesignSeed is simply the "template" used when creating a new DGN file/Model of that type. Units are an obvious example, but certain seed files may also include other predefined setups. For example, the Structural seed files have a few View Groups already created with specific levels turned on and off. For DrawingSeeds, the generically named "DrawingSeed" is the template used for Drawing Models and contains a single Model of that type. On the other hand, the _DEM.dgn variations contain a single 3D Model and are used as seed files for Drawing Extraction Manager, the predecessor to Dynamic Views. So, two different layouts for two different purposes. And for SheetSeeds, yes, the plain "sheetseed" typically includes Models only for new Sheet Model/File creation, while the ISO and ANSI variations also have borders referenced in. This article may also help: communities.bentley.com/.../10485.how-to-add-customized-title-block-when-drawing-views-are-created Lastly, it looks as though "Design_and_Sheets_Seed.dgn" is only included with a few specific datasets, so I assume it's a requirement of some sort for those regions. Seeing as they are a combination of Design and Sheet Models, they are likely templates for cases where you know in advance that the resulting DGN file requires both Model types within a single container vs. separate DGN files. The thread includes a discussion about a "mixed mode" seed: communities.bentley.com/.../225373 Does this help? If so, it's probably a Wiki-worthy topic!
