Creating drawings and sheets

Hello! Is there a tutorial/guide that teaches you how to create sheet files with all the details regarding line colors/width/style etc. ? because I can't figure out why I get lines in a different color than in the Bentley's videos.

Also, how do I set it to add automatically dimensions and annotations in drawings? (sometimes it shows me automatically the dimensions, sometimes it doesn't)

Thank you

  • I as well is looking for steps by step process on the how to create the sheets and view ports
  • Hi Martin,

I think part of the issue with a step-by-step is that it depends on what you are trying to achieve.  For example: Plan, Section, Detail? Which discipline since the Drawing Seed (or template) is based on that?   Is the result a Drawing only or Drawing + Sheet?   Are these to be added to the active DGN file or should they be created in separate DGNs?   Are Drawing Rules being used?  If so, as Marc mentioned above, the discipline again makes a difference in how rules can affect the results.

In its simplest form, one could say just pick a Callout, place it in the 3D model where needed, and accept all of the defaults.

But I'm fairly certain many here will say that they simply don't use all of the defaults.   So while the process itself can be relatively simple, it's tailoring it to your needs that can be just as important.

  • Steve - that always seems to make it so complicated.
We know the old way - pencil and paper - you draw at scale
But a beginner needs to understand you DON't draw in scale with MS
Note a lot of Autocad Guys do draw at scale and mixed scales
So scaled text just makes things so much worse

Scaled next is ONLY good in some cases. for a 1/20 to a 1/40 scale drawing it might work ok but not all the time
When I say it does not work - it does work - but the drawings can look like crap

If the beginner keeps design files, drawing files and sheet all separate and while in them keeps then ALL real in scale 1:1 then we have a good start.

Everythings is REAL SCALE | NOTHING is scaled

So you draw a Model REAL - create a DV in side the model
Ref that DV into a 2d file without any scaling
And annotate the hell our of it. I select my scale manually as scaling a plan or detail from 1/4" to 1/2" or 1/8" will give you crap

Then ref that onto a sheet and THAT is when you scale.

Too many ways to do this but I can guarantee - that from someone who has been doing this longer than most everyone except the Bentley Brother - this works every time.

  • thank you for the help I believe this will help me out a lot. I did watch to many webinars and got lost in what I should do
  • Hi Eric, thank you for your reply.
Actually I already work as you explained, that is, I draw in real scale 1:1 and then on another sheet I apply the scale.
The problem is that according to EU regulations the graphic representation of objects changes according to the scale applied, so for example a window scaled 1:100 is drawn differently from a window in scale 1:20.
Bentley already has a product called Speedikon (and that I used 20 years ago) for these things.
How is it that AECOSIM now doesn’t allow me to do the same?
  • I woudl like you to explain as this does not exist in ABD. ABD either gives detail or not. You either create it with detail or not.

Woud lyou have different window elevations for different scales?
    Different plans?

For the Elevation I would have to draw the parts of that on different levels and then have those levels on or off for a particular scale
Would take some time but pretty cools to see.
The Plan would be the same.

For the wall sections though NO.
I would like to have small scale 1/8" or smaller Unify and hatch the entire plan
And then pattern my plans as I now do for anything 3/16" and above.

    Not an easy task

This is part of the process Bently needs to make inherent in drawing creation not in a work around.
