change level overrides object by object

This may be a very silly question, but here it goes:

The same way we can set any object to have a color by level or not, different from all the other objects in that level, can we do it for the level overrides? So when we switch to "override view" the color of the object is not by level but a property of its own?

  • That would be like having an element attribute 'ignore level overrides'?
I can't think of a way to do this in the way that you are asking. The level override colour applies to the whole level.
If the level override is switched off for that level the ByLevel or individually applied colours will be displayed when level override is applied, but I'm sure you know that already!
You can create pen tables that apply symbology to specific elements when printing to device or file, that might be of use if the selection attributes can be narrowed down to identify the particular elements you wish to control. Depends what you need to do, the pen table functions were originally designed to do things like colour particular line styles for pipework, fire resistance, that kind of fairly global re-symbolisation.

  • Ok. Just to be perfectly clear, for colors for example: If we are viewing the model without overrides on an object will have 1 out of 2 possibilities: color by level or color applied individually. If the overrides are on than the object will always display the override color of the level. Correct?

Let me explain my goal: I have to export the 3D model to DWG with specific colors in specific objects. These do not match the colors we usually use for working and modeling, but the level structure is very similar to the color distribution. So we decided to use the level overrides for export. For most of the cases it works, but occasionally we might have to change the color in just a few objects independently. Can you think of any way this could be achieved? I don't think pen tables apply when exporting to DWG. I do see a remap option on the export to DWG menu, but I'm not sure how it works.

Yes, that is correct (unless one of my colleagues jumps in with an alternative!).

To go to DWG as you describe I think possible options are:

    • to put the elements in question on a separate level with the required override colour
    • to put the elements into a separate DGN referenced to the main model, you could then control the display of the levels of the same name separately, but that sounds overcomplex.

DWG remap is designed to remap level names, colours, weights, line styles, fonts and cell names to the receivers standards but cannot operate on individual elements
