How to place an arc door top-light and triple panel window

Hi, I need help with some difficulties I am facing with AECOsim. The main ones are:

1-  How can I place arc shape-like of door top-light  or be able to modify the shape of door top-light to my desired shape instead of the default rectangular top-light?

2-  How can I place triple panel (bay) window?                                                                                                                                                                                                      I have tried modifying the parameters (property & value) of 'Place Window Tool' while and after placing a window with no success of getting my desired triple vertical panel window.

Thanks.

  • I (sadly) agree with MJAN AG. When it becomes a bit more 'exotic' the fastest way to model a window is modelling it yourself. I would like ot see it different, since it doesn't show in the DataGroup system and -be honest- is weird to do it that way with 2 parametric tools available. But those won't do it. The PCS is terrible, the FrameBuilder is actually not that bad, it's using a simple script building method to create a door/window, but you don't have to go to wild, special shapes are not that easy to make.

  • Easiest is a CCell. especially if you don't need the datagroup.

  • Eric,

You are still using MicroStation tools so what makes it better? CCell is something that my brain won't accept... what's the use of it to have only an option to show something with a 2D plan??? What about the elevations? A 3D object has elevations. You are better of using normal cells or better redesign AECOsim from scratch!

Another demo trying to wake up Bentley (which of course will never happen).

  • There is a way you can add elevation views to Compound Cells just like you add a plan view, I don't exaclty remember how but I saw it somewhere.
Ofcourse I agree, parametric shoud be the way-to-go.

  • You don't need an elevation view as your model will create those.

    It is easy to edit.

    1. I build any CCell in a separate single file or in something like my plumbing file
    2. That way if I update a very complicated door for example.  I do it to the original model - copy the door - edit the door - save the door and replace the door.  MUCH quicker than any edit in PCS
    3. MUCH like 100 times better than creating doors in PCS - they render easily and easier to create a library of doors with multiple finishes.
    4. The Ccell does everything but the datagroup easily
    5. And door numbering is a joke in PCS so I am quicker with a spreadsheet and CCells than PCS.

Now don't jump on me for this solution.

I agree that this is a work around and not a final solution.

I have been asking for a SINGULAR (ONE) complete solution for some time.  I will make myself available to Bentley to help.  But it is not a viable solution.
