Curved Slab

Can anyone explain the easiest way (step by step) to create the curved base slab in aecosim (see plan and section below)? This is the curved base slab of a pumping station. All dimensions are in millimeters.

  • In this case Stefan's suggestion, expanded upon by Paul, is the most appropriate.

I just thought it could be worth mentioning that for other constructions that could be generated from rotated or extruded profiles you might find it useful to look at the SS6 Place User Defined Profile tool, this shows a very notional car park ramp run along a curve:

Project or company specific profiles can be generated linked to the datagroup for scheduling.

As the project advances the profile can be changed, this example is just to demonstrate the functional point, swapping a car park ramp profile for an obviously unbuildable hollow slab:

A more realistic application is a slab edge profile:

This profile just follows a path round the edge of the slab, it could be swapped for another simply by using the Modify tool to change the profile, no repeat of the initial placement would be required.

  • Horizontal spiral yes, 3D spiral not yet, we don't have control over profile orientation in this tool yet. If you would like to contribute to our process please file a Service Request mentioning Enhancement 474954 'User Defined Profiles: Add controls to orientation of profile to allow profiles to be placed along 3D curves without twisting'.
3D spiral geometry can be created using the Solid by Extrusion tool following a path with Lock Profile Rotation enabled.

  • This is exactly what I mean...whatever is there is not complete! Again ABD needs to a HUGE overhaul, this software is cumbersome and, sorry to say, a joke.
  • As Pedro, Marc and others mentioned, creating and using  Microstation Models in ABD is common workflow. With connect edition its very easy to create a parametric slabs or other Forms. Here is a short Video explaining the way. And of course you can create parametric Cells from that and get very good Reports about graphical Values like Surface and Volume but also for Business Data.

  • in Feature Modeling we have a nice parametric 3D Helix
