RFA import from Google 3D Warehouse

RFA is the Revit Family format, the RFA importer is designed only to import these. RFA objects are parametric and carry metadata about the object.

Google warehouse downloads are SketchUp files. These are just geometry, they do not carry any metadata and are not parametric.

You could:

a) place the warehouse model as a cell and attach instance data

b) create a compound cell from the warehouse model and add that to the DataGroup

Note SketchUp models are composed of surfaces so look fine in 3D but do not cut well, finding an RFA object from a manufacturer would probably be a better route.

Alternatively you could create a compound cell and add that to the datagroup. This would result in a simple 3D object with 2D representations when cut, this may be all you need? See AECOsim Building Designer - Compound Cells - Non Parametric Doors.

and your suggestion was highly appreciated. Meanwhile, are there any credible sources you can suggest to download the RFA doors. At the moment, I do not have any version of Revit installed.

If you have an RFA door now does it place correctly into your walls.

I always take my RFA doors and convert them into CCells and they place great.

Thanks Eric. Nice one....however I have one very important question I would like to ask you. When you convert these RFA to compound cells, do the doors loose their revit parametric properties i.e can you still use the INSTANCE DATA to change width, height, thichness...etc of inserted doors. if not, how would you achieve this?

No it cant. However if you maintain the original DGN you can update the CCell you created or add another one.

The reality is - hwo many truly different doors for example do you use in your building beyond the typical HM or Solid wood door?
I typically use the REVit or now CCells for my main entries and specialy places where I need more detail. Then the stock ones for the doors down the hallway.

If I wanted to use a lot of different stlye door leafs (slabs) I would expect Bentley to provide those and to create them in PCS is terrible.

what could cause the error shown below?

Basically AECOsim can't read the data inside the RFA. Imported it into Revit and everything works perfect so RFA is created correctly.
