DG WAlls not Cleaning up Properly

OK - I am trying very had to give into they new way of drawing with DG Walls

I realize that my dimensions will be hard to work as now I will no longer dimension from one side of a wall to another and have it read 4', it will now read 3'-10 3/4", which the subs will love dealing with.

But the problem is they don't clean up right.  I am now taking 6 extra steps for every joint between two walls.

This is the wall when I tell to extend

I now have to play with the gypsum board to get them to extend properly and to then be cut out where it would not disappear

Is is designed to do this to every joint I create?

  • It's difficult to tell for sure without seeing the model first-hand, but it's possible that the walls are not cleaning up correctly. I would recommend checking a few sections in the delivered help to be sure whether this is the case:
"Compound Wall Cleanup Controls" (using the Function attribute in Wall Assembly builder)
    "Wall Intersection Behavior"
    "Dissimilar walls"

  • THESE are TWO "OUT OF THE BOX" walls - I was hoping to be quick about building something and relying on the deliverables.

  • I think Eric wants to see this;

  • This is related to what I mentioned in my post in the topic about dimensions: as long as connections aren't automatically made like this, I keep my walls as simple as possible without the finishings. Otherwise it's just too much work to make it all connect the right way.

  • The dimensions are controlled in the Wall Properties meaning I can tell where to start dimension from (i.e. wall finish or wall structure). There is also an option of creating a dimension style which looks at the dimension criteria set in the Wall Properties, in AutoCAD Architecture there are many things which can be controlled which AECOsim can't do or doesn't even support.
  • If they don't work as Delivered they don't work. But to be worth anything they need to be even more complete.

What about the end of a simple partition. It shows a stud with gypbd on both sides but NOTHING the ENDS. That would be a funny looking building.

I did my last job with compound or DGWALLS - Right now it wil be easier to go back to forms as I am having trouble finding an advantage.
DG Walls are slower or impossible to make and modify, (talking about taking what was a new wall assembly and putting it into a new DG Wall that also is NOT a part of the delivered set as that gets replaced too easily.)

And the promises of DG wall that work better in elevation have NEVER been delivered.

I want a reason and an ability to embrace DGWalls. Right now the old forms are quicker and more profitable. HELP PLEASE!

  • Eric,

This video is specially for you! You always have comment on the uploaded videos well here I am showing you the delivered wall styles and the stud walls with GWB at the end! Two different stud wall styles and also showing you the cleanup. No issues whatsoever with using compound walls in my projects.

Also in my previously uploaded videos you can see the flexibility of creating custom objects so creating a custom stud wall is easy as counting 123.

    Have a nice day.
