ABD SS6 - Elevations, sections "F&R Fill color"

Hi

Talking about elevations views and sections views. Why not an optional fill setting in the family and parts dialog in the "drawing symbology" section called "F&R fill color"?

It would be the same you have in the "Cut patterns" but for the forward an rear views. We think it would be very time saving and very useful. For example we can get elevations or sections views with free solid colors in the walls. We can't get in a very easy way demolition view and section plans or finishes plans.
We don't need to worry about the geometrical map/hatch define by default in for the rendering material. They update in a automatic way if you change the geometry (not as dimensions!!! sorry for the outburst). They can also save a lot of time in 2D "embellishment annoying process.

Borja

  • I believe there's an enhancement already logged previously for this, but as I understand it one of the roadblocks is that the Visible Edge display style (which is the default) has never supported fill, so that behavior would have to be change. You could of course change the Forward View display from the default Forward-Drawing to a shaded mode, or change Forward-Drawing itself to use Filled Visible Edges instead of Visible Edges. Of course, then everything in the forward view would be filled...

So as another alternative, you can change the display style of just those elements desired using the MicroStation Properties (Element Info) dialog. Perhaps that is a usable option?

  • Hi Steve,

Regarding that last alternative you gave: that change will be made directly to the object so it will afect all the drawings where it appears, correct? Also, is it possible to do something like that in a "reference based" way? For example, I build a master model with a bunch of referenced files, and I create my plans and sections from it. In those drawings, can I choose a reference to display with filled visible edges in that drawing? I thought it could work but after experimenting there is a problem with the nesting depth that doesn't allow it...
  • Hi Pedro,
In regards to your first question, yes, setting a Display Style at the element level it will affect all drawings where that element displays, in a similar fashion to applying a part.

For the second item... I am getting the display style selected in Reference Presentation carried forward from nested reference attachments. What's the nature of the problem you are seeing?

  • I'll show you what I have:

This is a top view from my master model where I have a bunch of references and I make the DVs. You'll notice one of my references has the display style as "Filled Hidden line" instead of "Wireframe" (that actually comes "from parent"):

Here is a drawing with the DV attached of a plan of the same master model. I'm also showing the nested references and their display style, that are the same as in the previous picture. However this has no effect on the displayed graphics. Also, if I try to access the presentation options of the reference in the drawing model I get this message: "Cannot perform operation on nested reference" - which makes me think this is not possible at all.
