Long File Opening times

Hello good Bentley Community

I'm having a problem with my file agility, when I open a 3d model in AECOsim the loading times can take up to 10 minutes, and if I start handling references it takes a long time too.

This is seriously hurting my work, please someone help me

Regards

  • Rafael,
Is everything (drawings, workspace-user/project) local to your machine or shared from a server folder?
    Are you going through ProjectWise?
All files or just certain ones?
    What size is the file?
Also, please include your software version and machine's specifications (memory, processor, graphic card type) in your response.
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Hello Larry,

    Thank you for your reply,

Yes everything is on the local machine. I'm running with AECOsim V8i, Select series 6, version 08.11.09.829.

I have a Phenom II 955 X4 processor, on Windows 10 Professional, with 8 g ram, Graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD5850 series
  • Rafael,

8 GB of ram is at the low end of our recommended minimum system configuration.  Do you have a machine with more memory to try and see if performance is better using more memory?

The best way to gauge whether this is causing your performance issue is to open Task Manager before opening a file and watch your memory usage while the file is being opened.  If while loading the file/reference files/performing all background processes you see that you are running low on Available Memory, then the Operating System will begin to swap to your hard drive and everyone knows that will cause considerable performance issues.

If your memory usage never gets close to the 5-8 GB range, then there might be something going on with your file and we would need to take a look at it in order to tell.

Another recommendation would be to try opening AECOsim Building Designer using the Architectural Building Designer V8i (SELECTseries 6) icon.  This will not load Mechanical or Structural (and others) processes while your file is opening.  Keep in mind you will only have the Architectural menus available when the file is open, but the other disciplines can be loaded from the Building Designer pull-down menu after the file is open.

Please let us know if these recommendations help you.

    Thanks,

    Larry

  • Thank you Larry for the good information,

But I think the problem lies within the file, because I've been operating on this version with this same specs and just recently the problem started
  • Rafael,
Here are a couple of suggestions to try.
    1. Try going back to a version of the file before the issue started and make sure it still performs properly in that version of the file. You can re-do whatever you think might have caused it in order to narrow down why it's happening and let me know.
    2. In the slow version of the file, select the elements you placed last (since it started running slowly) and create a selection set of just those elements. Key-in TFREBUILD in the key-in browser (and confirm) and see if it corrects the problem.

Please let me know your results.
    Thank-you Rafael,
    Larry
