Cached views showing as out of date

I am currently caching my dynamic views as per the best practice wherever possible however iam finding that sometimes (not all) as soon as i cache a view it shows as being out of date and the view container file is showing as out of date even though the file hasnt been opened. i'll synch the view again and it goes away. Again sometimes when i go into sheet files the dynamic view shows up in the references as "child reference cache is out of date" when i have just literally synched the view and left the file. This doesnt happen all the time just at random times and with random files (ie i have 4 DV files taken from one view container and it will happen on one of the DV files but not on the other 3).

  • Hi Rob,
I'm at a bit of a loss as this isn't anything I've directly experienced myself. Has this always been the case when using DVs, or is it a more recent development? I'm assuming that when opening the Sheet Models, the 3D Models are not opened by anyone else?

  • Hi Steve and Rob,
Was this resolved? We recently have experienced the same problem. We synced references in all relevent drawing files but the sheet files, to which they are attached, still show the "child reference cache is out of date" message.

I have run the RefVisibleEdge_Sync.txt batch process but it does not seem to sync child references in the sheet files and instead we have had to go into every single sheet file and sync references manually. This is obviously a terrible use of our time.
What is the most efficient method for syncing references in all drawings and sheet files?

    BTW our file setup is:
    Project_directory > models > model.dgn files
Project_directory > models > level_master.dgn files - references model.dgn files relevant to each floor level.
    Project_directory > models > master.dgn - references level_master files (nesting depth 1). dynamic saved views created here.
    Project_directory > drawings > drawing.dgn - references master dynamic view (nesting depth 2)
    Project_directory > sheets > sheet01.dgn - references drawing.dgn (nesting depth 3) and any 2d drawings (no nesting)

  • Joey,
No it was never resolved. It remains one of quite a large number of problems within AecoSIM that are simply ignored. The company i work for has taken the decision that we wont actually use AecoSIM for anymore BIM projects or projects that require us to produce drawings from a model, it simply isnt worth the wasted time and effort that occurs on an almost daily basis, so we have switched to a.n.other well known modelling software and are very happy with the results.
  • I'll second that
Dynamic Views have now been commercially available for around 6-7 years. Will Bentley Systems actually get around to making this work reliably and consistently? I personally could not recommend the use of this 'feature' on a sizeable commercial project, except for very simple, early stage drawings. Last week I went to a presentation by a large enterprise style engineering group (that employs about 16 000 people), they to were having problems with DVs, and as the project progressed to production information, they abandoned any attempts to use DVs for producing drawings, and reverted to extractions, ...... this is in 2016/17.
When will Bentley Systems get to grips with the fact that the development priority right now is to get what is already there working consistently, reliably, clearly, ...... instead of leaving these things half finished, half working, and moving on to the next set of 'great new features' that are not really 'needed': example, the so called Building Views and Drawing Seeds/Templates are frankly more trouble than they are worth, create more problems, and are a 'waste of space'.

'It remains one of quite a large number of problems within AecoSIM that are simply ignored'
    Totally agree.
Get this problems fixed and working properly before moving on to the next round of, .... ' wow, look at this, it's really cool'

'it simply isnt worth the wasted time and effort that occurs on an almost daily basis'
    Totally agree
This has been my experience with Bentley Building products over the last 10-12 years. And I guarantee you I have a lot more 'patience' than the rank and file CAD user/architect/engineer, ......... if I'm fed up with it, ..... I won't tell you how they feel!

  • This software is broken and extremely frustrating, everything takes so long to complete and the clippings or whatever you want to call them DO NOT WORK!!
