Unable to Create a Drawing/Sheet Model

I am unable to generate a drawing model or sheet model from the discipline model I have worked on.

Every time I select the button to "create new drawing file" the save box comes up but when I have named and pressed save, the filename does not appear in the dialog box. The file path that is shown is for the original discipline model. Therefore I cannot create any new drawings from this.

Are there any stand out reasons why I cannot get this to work? I was following the video tutorial on Bentley Learn, but was stumped when I could not progress past this point.

  • What location are you trying to save to?
If you go to that location in Windows Explorer, can you right-click and create a new text document (the simplest non-technical test for your write access permission!).
Just to eliminate a possibility, when you name and save the new file, please can you check that the 'Save as type' is set to .dgn?

  • Hi, thanks for your suggestions.

I have full permissions on the folders and have no problems saving and editing files within the folders. I am also trying to save them as .dgn.

I am trying to save it to our server which is on a separate drive (:Y), but the operation still cannot be performed even if I attempt to save it to my local disk.

All the default folders (building datasets/standards/system/users etc.) for Aecosim are saved in the separate drive, could this be the issue?
  • Hi Nathan,

Please can I suggest that you download Bentley Configuration Explorer and run it on your system.

Once installed, click on Home tab > Process Configuration.

Pick the appropriate Application, user and Project, then click Process.

Once the process has completed the number of files, variables, etc will be displayed.

Click the Save icon in the quick access toolbar at the top right, save the Workspace File (.bcf) and send it as an attachment to this SR.

We can then load it into configuration explorer here and review your configuration, this should help us to give you some more specific advice about how your system is set up.

Do you see any errors in the message center when starting ABD or opening files? If so please see The Message Center - Some Tips and follow the advice given to increase the number of messages listed and how to save messages. Any relevant messages can also be attached to this SR (or a reply e-mail).

  • Hi Marc,
I discovered with this issue that when you select the 'create new drawing file' button and the 'Create Drawing Model Destination File' dialog appears, if you then navigate to your desired location and enter a file name it will not write that new file name back if the Seed file input that is being located by the configurations is not calling up a valid file.

Even if you browse for a valid seed file, it still will not write your new file name back to the 'Create Drawing Model Dialog' until the configurations that populate that path find a valid file.

This is strange behaviour as the drawing seed produces the resulting drawing model file, but we cleaned up Nathan's configurations to locate a valid seed file and the Create Drawing dialog now works as expected.
