Duct fitting type change globally

Hi there,

Is it possible I could change circular bend with square bend in rectangular ductwork globally?

Regards,

  • Hello Azhar,

Can you include the version you are using? That will help with an answer.

    Thanks

  • Thanks Paul,
    I am using V8i (SS5) - Version 08.11.09.747
After completing my modelling, I want to replace one fitting type with another globally but cant figure it out.
    Regards,
    Azhar
  • Hi Azhar,

There's not a way to globally change all the curved elbows to mitered elbows. But I want to point out some methods to help that process.

When you go to place an elbow (I'll use a mitered elbow as an example) one of the options in the Tool Settings is "Exchange". With this option turned on the component you snap on and highlight will "swap out" the component in the model. You can match the Family/Part, size, etc. with the other Tool Settings options, and can adjust the other setting as needed and use the AccuDraw mechanical shortcuts (like RT, rotate right, and RW, rotate left). This might result in the elbow not being attach correctly at the opposite end.

I find the "Exchange" option valuable with diffusers. I have been successful with creating a selection set of diffusers, selecting the Place Diffuser command and snapping to one of them and the application will replace the whole selection set. I've found the best result is when done in a view in a Top orientation.

You can set up Mechanical to default to the elbow of your choice when first modeling. Information for doing that in SELECTseries 5 is in this wiki article:

    Setting Default Auto Fittings options

Note that in SELECTseries 6 a new tool, Auto Fitting Preferences, is introduced that give you the default options for rectangular, round and oval duct in one user-friendly interface.

You can use the DataGroup Explorer to sort the elbows by the various sizes you may have and to zoom into the particular elbows to assist in locating, selecting and isolating the elbows.

In this case (as opposed to diffusers that I mention above) I might rely on simply remodeling some of the elbows.

Another note for SELECTseries 6 different mitered elbows have been added, a radius throat square heel and a square throat radius heel.

    Thanks

    Paul
