How to create model by profile (AECOsim)

Hello people~

I need an advice about modeling way.

I wanna make a retaining wall in 'Building Designer task'. Not a 'Microstation' task. Especially 'Architectural Design-Place Wall' tool.

For example,

1st - Make a profile in 'Parametric Cell Studio'.

2nd - Put in the custom properties(information) into the profile.

3rd - Import to AECOsim and place wall.

I have to make a library with custom properties.

But, don't know how to make.

Please advise me.

  • Hi YoungKwang,
The Place Wall tool does not utlize predefined cells but rather "Linear Forms" as its base element type that are adjusted on-the-fly during placement. Do you have a screen capture of what the retaining wall might look like? Perhaps a wall assemby could do the trick instead, depending on the configuration and if a true "wall" component type is a requirement. Outside of placing a true wall, you could do something like the delivered Curtain Walls which are PAZs.

  • Thank you so much your reply.

Unfortunately, I couldn't understand your advice... Sorry...

Change my question, I found 'StructuralShapesTemplate' excel sheet in the dataset folder. (Please see the below capture)

I wanna add more profiles(Templates) and dimensions. And how can I add in the ABD?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks and regards,

  • About the StructuralShapesTemplate

Dont think you can add more templates
but you can sure change all the existing dimensions
Bellow is how I managed to change the dimensions of the templates already in place
    (AECOsim SS5)

    1.
    First!
Highly recommended to backup the project data Workspace
    folder
    Usually found at this path

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss5

    2.
    From this folder

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i\Ss5\WorkSpace\BuildingDatasets\Dataset_GB\data

    open the file

    StructuralShapesTemplate.xls

This is the template file to customize the shapes (new dimensions)

    3.
Once opened this file you need to import the xml file where the AECOsim gets the parametric data from
For that, in excel, use import (using the xml import Add-In)
And next import (from the same folder ) the UK.xml file (or the xml lib you want to modify / add new shape dimensions )

    4.
Then find the page of the shape you want to edit. Next change an already existing shape or add a new line by copy paste.
    Finish editing all the dims

    5.
Next export the xml file using the same add-in. Save and overwrite the existing
UK.xml file, (make sure you did a backup of this file)
(if you wish you can create project specific shape.xml file, using just your custom shapes)

    6.
Refresh your library on AECOsim, or (recommended) close and open a new
    AECOsim session

Now you should be able to see the new shapes in the place element tool shape menu

    Cheers

  • Gilberto,
You are correct, new shapes cannot be added by user customisation, they have to be added at the application level.
