Where can you place associative dimension in Dynamic Views?

In the new Bentley Architecture V8i, I set up a Sheet view of a floor plan and the automatic generated door and windows tags are showing up (which is very cool). My question is I was wanting to dimension this view with associative dimensions so when I move walls in the model this "Sheet view of the floor plan" the dimension string would be correct to reflect the change in the model. I tried placing an associated dimension in the Sheet view and they do not stay associate to my walls? What should my settings be for this to work? I have associate turned on? Where should they be placed? If I try to place in the model the associative dimensions only place to the top of the walls and then do not show up in the "plan view" because they are not in the forward view. • Hello Brian, Associated dimension can be placed in model itself. (Use walls key points if possible for associative dimension). Place fitted section, place associative dimension, create saved view, reference saved view to the sheet, you will see the annotation and dimension in the sheet. Now if you modify the walls, it won't allow as it is actually in the reference, so just right on the wall and select activate option which will allow you to manipulate the wall, here now you will see the dimension also remain associated (You can also place associated dimension here also at this point in the sheet) After you done with the changes deactivate the model using context sensitive menu. • Hi, Brian,

If your sheet model is in the same design file as your 3D model, then associative dimensioning will work.  There seems to be a problem with associative dimensioning working when the 3D model is in one DGN and the plan view of it is attached to a sheet model in a 2nd DGN.  I will ask development to check into this.

    Which scenario are you using?

  • Steve, Thanks. We have been trying the 3D model in one DGN and the plan view of it is attached to a sheet model in a 2nd DGN.

  • Steve, I think I have figured out what is causing my problem? If you have Preference:Triforma: Keypoints For Associative Dimensioning Turned On then it appears to ONLY allow you to place an associative dimension string at the top of the wall which will not show up if you are cutting a floor plan as it is in the "reflected view". If I turn off this Preference I can get it to place the dimension at the z-plane (which is set to 0'-0") which shows correctly. Am I doing something incorrect here or is this a BUG?
