AECOsim SS6 Visual Basic error 453

I'm getting the following error message every time I open AECOsim SS6 in Archtectural mode

"Microsoft Visual Basic

Run-time error "453":

Can't find DLL entry point GetLocaleInfoA in kernel32"

Does anyone know what this means, and how to fix it ?

Regards

Michael.

I tried both of these and they both failed.
The round duct wasn't created and came up with a Instance Data unavailable message
The Truss wasn't created and came up with a Run-time error '453" when I tried to select a Section Size.

  • Hi Michael,
Thanks for checking - I figured that would be the case.

A general Google search for "run time error 453 can't find dll entry point" returns over 19000 results so it's not a completely uncommon error even outside of Bentley software. However, the second part of the VB error, "Can't find DLL entry point GetLocaleInfoA in kernel32" seems to return only this thread - so that is definitely not common!

I noticed in the exception log that your ABD version is build 08.11.09.835. Is there any chance you can update to the latest released version, 08.11.09.866? I have no way to know whether that will or won't resolve the VB error, but with Windows 10 I'd certainly be more confident with the latest ABD V8i release we have to offer.

I have updated to the latest release, and still get the error.
have a feeling it might be my Windows 10 installation.
When I get the chance, I'm going to do a clean Windows install and see what happens.
  • Hi Michael,
Ah... that could certainly be the case. Let us know if/when you have the opportunity to do a clean Windows install!

  • I've installed the CONNECT version of AECOsim, and am having problems running it in Microstation mode.

Using this shortcut works fine. It takes about 6 seconds to open

    "C:\AECOsim CE\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\AECOsimBuildingDesigner.exe"

But using this shortcut, I'm having problems getting AECOsim to start. It takes about 23 seconds to open

    "C:\AECOsim CE\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\AECOsimBuildingDesigner.exe" -wsBB_DISCIPLINE=MicroStation -wudefault

I also get this time difference when I select "File". AECOsim in BD mode opens straight away, but in Microstation mode, it takes up to 25 seconds to open.

I expect this to be reversed due to the Data loaded in BD mode.

Is there a setting I'm missing for running in Microstation mode ?

    regards

    Michael.
