Unique Door Numbers from a Repeated Reference file.

Question

Hi All, 
 We are currently working on a larger building and have split our model up by floor level into typical core, fa&ccedil;ade, floor etc. we then reference in the say the core multiple times and move it up in elevation before we export to ifc for the consultant team and the master BIM model. 
 The question I have is in regards to doors. 
 I need to identify each door in the model so they can be identified in the master model or in some other package. 
 I am struggling with this on how do I add multiple door tags to a single door. The door number is consistent across floors we just prefix the floor number. 
 
 So maybe the question is how to do update a door number by prefixing the level number to it automatically or in ifc export.

Hi Wayne, 
 The method that has been adopted by a number of our users in response to this question is to leave door numbering and any other item specific properties until a point in the project where the design is stable enough to save all of the typical instances as unique storey specific instances. At that point every door is an individual instance and can have it's properties manipulated via Edit in Excel. I was told in one particular conversation that this was acceptable at production stage as "there is always something different about every floor anyway".

Hi Wayne, 
 There is also method of creating schedules that labels doors by floor independently of the object properties, I've just been reminded of this by Mary Chib in the ABD SIG. While this does not help with IFC it may be useful in other situations. 
 If each referenced floor, whether unique or typical, is given a Logical name that contains the appropriate floor number/label, that logical name can be added as a schedule column, then used as the first 'group by' sort criterion:
