Re-symbolisation with dynamic views

I am using DV in a new project. Although the workflow  I am using makes setting up DV”s fairly easily I can’t find a way to make the background files grey. I need to do that as I am modelling the building services. Any  suggestions on a solution?

  • Hi David,

Please can you tell us more about the workflow?

Do you mean the background of Drawing Models?

    Regards

    Marc

  • Hi David,

By background I’m assuming you want to change some reference or elements that is not a building service to gray in your drawing so services stand out.

    If so then:

First I would try the level overrides. You change to gray the level override color of the elements you want grey, leave overrides off for the building services. Make sure you turn overrides on in the reference presentation or your viewport.

I this doesn’t work then you can try the clip volumes settings presentations using Display Styles, for this you will need to attach twice the same reference. One filtering the services out with grey Display Styles the other filtering out the background elements and showing only the services with default display style.

Maybe ask your BIM manager to expand that DV workflow, generating the cut DV is just the first step for generating drawings from 3D elements then you need to be aware of all the presentation, override, filtering, rules and visual styles available to tweak your view.

    Cheers

  • Hi Gilbert

i am using the Aecosim drawing section generator, I have first created a master file to generate the sections from, then referenced the building and MEP services into it, then used the section generator tool to create: the section; generate the 2d dynamic view (DV) and generate the drawing sheet.

The only changes I have made to the standard Bentley workflow is to edit the drawingseed-Mechanical.dgnlib to accept the clients border file and to choose the clients seed files in the creation of sheet and model files

as you said, I am wanting to use level overrides to push all building elements to grey whilst leaving the building services (MEP) as they are modelled

i have used overrides in the master file and created the section with them on, but when the section is generated the overrides are not on. I have also tried to edit the levels in the generated file but it doesn’t display them.

in my project workspace I have edited the ‘edit nested level attachments’

I wasn’t too sure what the control level attribute should read like, any chance you could send a screen shot? Perhaps this is what’s missing.

I am also having a problem in that the pipes and circular ducts are not displaying the centre lines. In view attributes I have clicked promote view (in my master file where I am generation the section) then in the general tab unticked drawing symbols and ticked generate centrelines.

sorry to pile it all on but I am keen to try and solve the problem before it gets critical on the project

    thanks

  • Ok so I will address the levels overrides

i have used overrides in the master file and created the section with them on, but when the section is generated the overrides are not on. I have also tried to edit the levels in the generated file but it doesn’t display them.

Probably the seed you’re using to produce the section DV doesn’t have the level overrides defaulted. So in your drawing model where you view is inserted in the references dialogue, click presentation and use the view flags to constrain that reference to level overrides (see screen cap)

Also in the same drawing model check in the levels menu if the overrides are turned on and setup as per the 3D model. If not then set it up properly.

    Center Line

I am also having a problem in that the pipes and circular ducts are not displaying the centre lines. In view attributes I have clicked promote view (in my master file where I am generation the section) then in the general tab unticked drawing symbols and ticked generate centrelines.

Try using the MECH drawing seed when creating you’re section call outs
    See screen caps

Let me know if this works.

    Cheers

    Seed

  • Hi Gilberto
Thank-you for coming back so soon
i Have gone into the seed file and amended the attributes:
i then re-cut another section using the seed with the settings as you set out
    section cutting master model:
(note i have also set all structural and architectural models to grey)
also i went into the seed files being used for the section cut and the drawing sheet and set the attributes to accept overrides

in the model space of the drawing sheet i set the view attributes
and set overrides to grey for the references as i would normally

this has made no difference to the view

the drawing sheet with attributes set is also no different

    Gilberto

    Should these two be configured?
Can you screen shot what the config should be to allow colour and line weight overrides
