Hi,
I have trawled the internet for some time now and i haven't found my answer so I'm now at a loss, can some one help me or point me in the right direction!. I need to create bespoke structural shapes and these would be used to create slabs rather than beams or columns but i would like to use the place beam tool as i can then send it along a profile to create my slab. I know how to add new section sizes to the xml etc. but that's not what i am after and SS6 now has additional shapes included but still nothing that suits my needs. Would i be right in saying that the ProjectShapes.xml links back to some form of graphical version of the shape? or is it linked back to some kind of PC dimension driven file?
Any help, literature or diagrams on this would be most appreciative.
Many thanks in advance.
The following link can give you some information about what needs to be done in order to add new structural shapes to the program:

If the structural shape is not already available in a tool, development would normally need to add it. You would need file a service request with detailed information about the shape, including a dimensioned image of it.
Many thanks for your reply Robert. I have tried the place profile tool but it doesn't quite hold the same level of structural data as a structural object. The problem regarding raising a service request is that i don't know what shapes we will require as of yet as its early days in the design, i do know it could be a powerful tool for us in understanding how to create the shapes from scratch in the future. Am i right in saying the shapes are derived from a graphical or dimension driven base which is linked to the xml?
Thanks again
Rob
Yes, you are correct. The section xml holds the various sizes, in which you could add additional sizes, for that particular structural shape while the structural_shapes.xsl holds the templates and dimensions for each type shape.
Yep i understand that part but its the origin of the shapes I'm searching for. I found this folder C:\ProgramData\Bentley\catalogdata\3.1.2.4\sectiontemplates\codebehind which includes various xml files which could possibly be linked to the project shapes. So from what i have found is the shape geometry derived from coding rather than graphical?
Thanks
Hi Rob,
Yes the shapes are coded, so new shapes need to be added by development as Robert mentioned above. Please file an SR to request new shapes.

Marc
