COBie excel spread sheet fields

Hi

I've been using the export to COBie function. The component name & description are being populated in the excel spreadsheet under the Type & Component work sheets. There are other entry options. Serial Number, install date, tag number etc. Is it possible to fill this information out when you add component data to an element ?

In the help ( cobie type & properties ) it mentions that you can add in the data group catolog editor a definition for cobie entries. There are no definitions listed for Cobie & I'm unable to create a new entry for a COBie instance.

  • Hi

I'm getting information into the cobie excel spread sheet under type I'm getting the name all other entries are set to n/a - shape, size, color, finish etc -  The same for name. If the IFC_project 2 was successful you should be able to change the information when you add instance data ? Where does the cobie pset file reside ? is there any other setting that could be causing this to fail ?

  • Hi Keith,

You should certainly be seeing those properties in Catalog Editor:

When you open the Configuration Variables dialog while in AECOsim, do you see the variable defined and with a value of 2?

Also, since I just had to check that myself, I also just realized that we've changed the variable name in CONNECT - it's now IFC_WORKSET instead of IFC_PROJECT.    Just in case.

  • Hi Steve

I looked again at the pcf file, took on board your comments & now have the cobie attributes appearing in the components attributes. When I'm applying meta data I'm using the - data group - add data instance - I'm able to populate the cobie fields but when I now export to excel via the cobie export the only excel sheet that is populated is type - name to warrenty duration labor is populated - none of the fields in green are populated even though I've populated the attribute data.

I tried adding instance data to two solids to see if the spreadsheet would pick up both instances - both with the same catalog type & item - then modified the attributes warranty colour tag id etc. expecting to see the meta data listed as 2 components in component sheet with there differing attributes. All that is listed is one listing under type. Any ideas on how I can get the data to export ?

  • Hi Keith,

An example file might be needed if I understand your description correctly.   FWIW, this is what I am seeing - the Sphere has Door DataGroup data applied.

  • Hi Steve

Thanks for your post I'm getting some descent export data - The table contents your showing is from the type work sheet. I had difficulty getting any output in the component worksheet which list instances until I started to using spaces - then other issue I was facing is that the spaces were 2d as soon as an element was off that surface it's not picked up in the spreadsheet. creating a volume seemed to do the trick. This has been by trial & error is there a more efficient way getting the component instances listed.
