We are on the network with multiple users and have been locked out of a specific file for a day now. The Read Only message does not say which computer has it opened (normally it does).
We disabled out preview panes in windows explorer, tried shutting down computers but still the file is locked! We have tried opening the file through windows explorer and Bentley explorer window.
We have no idea how to unlock this file and we need to make changes (its a design model file). We are using Windows 7 - AECOsim V8i SS6 version 08.11.09.866
Please help.
Serraric,
I guess the file is on a shared drive on a server on your network somewhere?
Have you rebooted the server?
I'm sure that would clear the file for use.
Please let us know.
Thanks,
Larry
You could also check the Shared Folders/Open Files on the Server and close the open file.
I had the same before, usually the file isn't in use by anyone else, it just seems it remains locked after it's been edited a few minutes before, as if it doesn't get released. I noticed this could also happen when it was myself editing the file before. I think it's a server thing, since it doesn't happen when I use files from a local source.Usually when I have this problem, it dissapears some minutes later and the file gets available.

Larry, I don't have access to the company server and would be unrealistic to ask IT to restart the server every time this happens.
This problem happened again with a different file. This is not good as we have multiple people working on the project.
Would ProjectWise solve this issue?
It appears that some server setting is keeping the file locked after it is closed. I don't believe Project Wise would resolve the issue.
Have you talked to your IT people about it?
