Just wondering is there Extraction operation available in AECOsim Connect Edtion like previous version. If yes could you show me where it is.
Hi Nigel,
Using Ss6 I just converted two DEM Defs to Saved Views- the one in a plan orientation (and with "plan" in the name) was converted to a Plan DV, and likewise for the one in a Section orientation. I won't pretend to remember the underlying logic since I haven't used this tool in a few years, but at first glance it seemed to provide the expected results. One of my DEM defs also included a Structural drawing rule and that did make it across as well.
From there, keep in mind that the tool was only designed to generate Saved Views, so makes no attempt to generate corresponding Drawing or Sheet Models.
That's all well and good, but how do you select whether it is a plan or a section when generating the DV? Or whether to create a Drawing model? That has to be done manually, I'm presuming. In my (albeit limited) tests, they are all "section views" and it doesn't copy the drawing resymbolisation rules through either so the results are next to useless.
Maybe I'm missing something...?
A lot of users used to DEM will want to replicate functionality provided in DEM... on their new projects.
64bit should give B/DV's more headroom and stability compared to DEM... but it will be hard to let go of existing practices.
It would be good to provide a list of features to make clear what will be no longer available with B/DV's.... and a list of new features that B/DV's can provide.
There are some large projects in the UK, by key Bentley clients, slated to use U3+ this year... and most of the teams and admins would be long time DEM users.. who will be pretty sceptical about B/DV's. No one wants to 'trial' new functionality on large projects, especially for something as critical and difficult to correct as drawing production. It would be good to list what projects - globally- have gone down the B/DV route and desribe a bit about their background.
One thing I hear a lot is the concern that the extracted 2d graphics will be 'volatile' in contrast to DEM which produces separate 2d elements that are still linked (but not as linked as DV generated elements).
It would be good to be able to provide an option in CVE's to automatically make MVE's to replicate the DEM workflow... while maintaining other benefits of DV's like back-referencing.
Good point dominic SEAH. We'll add it to our topics for next month's on May 15th.
As the mechanics of DEM no longer exist in CONNECT you would need to do this in V8i using the tool in the DEM dialog mentioned by Dominic.
Regards
Marc
