Create plan views has STOPED working!

For the last couple of weeks I am unable to create any floor plans from the model using `create plan views` or from any other method.    The Create Plan Views icon, gives you three options and all of them produce the same.  Either a blank black CAD screen or a grayish empty drawing screen set to an isometric view.  I am not doing anything different than I have in the last 5 years but despite a reinstall it hit and miss but definitely getting worse.  Any ideas?

  • The Create Drawing process uses the Drawing Seed templates set by the configuration, so if you are seeing a black background or a grey background in iso view it sounds like the seeds being used are incorrect.

    Which version are you using?

  • Hi Marc

    I am using 08.11.09.866.

Today I have tried a repair/ install and uninstalled the content advisor and connect edition because I seamed to get worse after updating with these.

  • Hi Wayne,

Ahhhh...  I see.   When generating the Drawing, there is both the Drawing Seed pulled from a DGNlib (DV settings) and the DGN file or "container" seed.  The former is greyed out in the Create Drawing dialog since you've already chosen a drawing seed from that library, and the latter is used to generate a new file in the selected location.

I'd have to go back and check/search, but I think MS_DRAWINGMODELSEED and MS_DRAWINGMODELSEEDNAME are used for manual creation of Drawing Models, and not for the automated DV process.  I just tried the same steps above using three different datasets, and they all by default use their included designseed.dgn.  The same applies to Plan, Section and Elevation callouts as well.

However, with that said...  even though the seed file is "designseed.dgn" you are still getting an actual 2D Drawing Model with the default grey background, correct?

  • Hi Steve

No.  I get an empty design or drawing model depending on how the computer feels! with no content.

  • I have the same problem and it is risking my $25 million project that we won as I cannot generate anything for the client.  I was haveing small issues to rebuilt from scratch my installation of ABD.  NOW NO PLANS or ELEVATIONS.  DOA and I tried to reach support  but even the customer service number goes to voice mail.  I logged this after one of the many crashes yesterday and I don't know if I will get a call from that dark hole.. HELP I AM CRITICAL AS I HAVE A PLANNING MEETING ON THE 9TH AND NOTHING TO GIVE MY CLIENT.

  • Hi Eric

I stopped the select service because of poor responses from support.  I have even considered moving over to the dark side and going with revit! or maybe worse, vector works!

Have you tried the steps that I go through above.  Its a pain but at least I get to generate a drawing.  The key is when you are about to choose the file name make sure at the bottom of the `file save as window` you select the appropriate drawing or design seed that you need.  I find this works for me but the overriding issue is - it is not automatic.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Wayne,

I'm still not entirely sure why you're seeing the results that you are.   I've attached a short video where I'm using ABD Ss6 with the UK dataset, and created a new drawing with the Floor Plan Set option. As you can see while designseed.dgn is chosen for the external DGN file itself the resulting drawing reflects the Arch - Floor Plan drawing seed.    This is as it should normally work.

Earlier you stated that the process was working correctly before and that at some point it "stopped".  Do you know for sure that the seed file (vs. Drawing Seed) was not designmodel.dgn before?
