AECOsim connect

I have downloaded the (GB) AECOsim Connect software as a trial

it came with what looked like a massive set of tutorials with the software, potentially very useful

the first tutorial on generative components suggested there was a US dataset and also a 'neutral metric' NM dataset

when I tried to replicate the tutorial, there was only the US dataset available (annoying)

I then tried a mechanical tutorial on setting up drawings, it all looked very similar to the traditional AECOsim workflow and again I was disappointed to see it was not based on the new software.

I will be removing the software and re-installing the old AECOsim for now

I hope in the future Bentley can put a Metric based version of this software together that contains all the metric measurements for mechanical and electrical design in the future

so far I think its only purpose if as a draughting tool, and not as a BIM tool

Has anyone else tried using (GB) AECOsim Connect for MEP, I downloaded abd100000154en.exe & abd10010036en.exe would update 2 have made a difference?

    Thanks for your prompt reply
I only installed the downloads listed in my earlier comment, after completely removing Aecosim SS6 from the same computer.
I didn’t notice the configure button so perhaps that’s why I am only seeing the us dataset when creating a new file from the tutorial I tried earlier today
When I get a chance I will trial connect again at home so I can get a grip on where everything (tools & configuration) have gone. Also looking forward to some of the new techniques which I have heard about

  • The examples and training worksets for CONNECT Edition are included in the Datasets (as Marc noted go to Configure > Next to see the available datasets):

Note, you can add the regional datasets after you have installed AECOsim Building Desginer CONNECT Edition by going to the Control Panel > Programs and doing a right-click Change. This is how the datasets are delivered in CONNECT Edition, in previous versions they were a separate download.

The United States (US) dataset examples and training worksets are imperial units based, the Neutral Metric (NM) dataset examples and training worksets are metric unit based.

On the Bentley LEARN Server are QuickStart courses (that can be used for imperial or metric) for the different disciplines. The videos for these courses can be accessed from the CONNECT Advisor

We have covered some new features and the CONNECT Edition in general in our more recent monthly Special Interest Group sessions, recordings of those can be found on the LEARN server on this Learning Path: Special Interest Group Sessions. These can also be found via the CONNECT Advisor.

There are more advanced course/videos found in the 'BIM Professional Training' series learning paths, currently we have some for architectural and structural. More are in development for the mechanical and electrical discipline and more will be posted for all the disciplines as the year progresses.

There are also learning paths for a Generative Components QuickStart and Special Interest Group.
