AECOsim connect

I have downloaded the (GB) AECOsim Connect software as a trial

it came with what looked like a massive set of tutorials with the software, potentially very useful

the first tutorial on generative components suggested there was a US dataset and also a 'neutral metric' NM dataset

when I tried to replicate the tutorial, there was only the US dataset available (annoying)

I then tried a mechanical tutorial on setting up drawings, it all looked very similar to the traditional AECOsim workflow and again I was disappointed to see it was not based on the new software.

I will be removing the software and re-installing the old AECOsim for now

I hope in the future Bentley can put a Metric based version of this software together that contains all the metric measurements for mechanical and electrical design in the future

so far I think its only purpose if as a draughting tool, and not as a BIM tool

Has anyone else tried using (GB) AECOsim Connect for MEP, I downloaded abd100000154en.exe & abd10010036en.exe would update 2 have made a difference?

  • Hi David,

Thank you for pointing these out. It is really great to know that you have found the videos helpful.

it came with what looked like a massive set of tutorials with the software, potentially very useful

    1. Other datasets are also available. Please go through this wiki to find how you can download the rest of the datasets after installation.

CONNECT Edition - How to Download and Install different Dataset for AECOsim Building Designer

You can even install the datasets at the time of ABD CE installation by clicking the 'configure' button.

there was only the US dataset available (annoying)

    2. I have already checked in learn server, and mechanical tutorial videos are made on the ABD CE.

I was disappointed to see it was not based on the new software.

    3. As I have mentioned in first point, metric based datasets are available. If you want you can even create a Deployment Image to download all the dataset's .msi files in your local drive, so that you can install them later on as per your wish.

CONNECT Edition - Steps to create a Deployment Image

I hope in the future Bentley can put a Metric based version of this software together that contains all the metric measurements for mechanical and electrical design in the future

    4. In ABD CE U2, lots of defects and enhancements are fixed. I would request you to use ABD CE U2.

would update 2 have made a difference?

Please let me know if it helps you.

  • Hi David,

When you installed the trial did you install any of the additional datasets? There is a 'Configure' button on the installer that accesses the datasets and other installable options.

All of the datasets, other than US, are fully metric and contain a similar range of content so I don't immediately understand your comment:

I hope in the future Bentley can put a Metric based version of this software together that contains all the metric measurements for mechanical and electrical design in the future

Existing MEP tutorials for V8i are generally applicable to CONNECT Edition other than UI changes.
