Hello All,
I believe I have come across a bug/error but I thought it best to ask here first.
I was asked by my supervisor if it was possible to have a series of references in a model, but have one particular file (in this case a point cloud) ignore the clip volumes that were being used in the model.
I answered yes, you only need to go to the reference which you want to have ignore the clip volume and change its Reference Presentation settings to ignore Clip Volumes... well it appears that this doesn't work. As far as I can see, all the View *** options do not have any impact whether on or off. This didn't used to be the case with Microstation V8i.
I have tested with AECOsim Connect/AECOsim V8i/Navigator V8i. All of which seem to ignore the presentation settings request to ignore clip volumes.
Is this controlled by a variable? If not what is going on?
Hi Alex,
Can you please share the pointcloud file with us so that we can check it once in our end? Also please let us know which ABD CE version you have tested?
Warm Regards,
Subhamoy Kundu
Hi Subhamoy,
AECOsim Connect version 10.02.00.35
The point cloud file is 3GB so I am not really wanting to send that. We tested this issue with all sorts of models and it still failed.
As a simple test on your side, just draw a cube in one model and a cylinder in another. Reference both into the default model and change the presentation settings of one of the two references. The View presentation settings should be change to have the View Flags ticked on, and the Clip Volume off. Once that is done do a Clip Volume in the Default Model and see if the reference you just changed actually clips or not.
In our opinion by clicking on the View Flags and deselecting the Clip Volume you are telling the system that you want to ignore the View Attributes for the Default Model and instead use the reference view attributes.
Cheers,
Alex
The clip volume setting in the reference presentation dialog does not refer to the clip volume in the active file but rather to the clip volume found within the reference.
You can reference the help. The clip volume flag is meant to work with a reference which is attached using a saved view and has a clip volume defined in that model.
If so the clip in the reference can be turned off or on. However the Clip in the Master model will be applied either way so if any portion of a reference is outside the clip volume in the master the clip volume will be applied.

Thanks David. That explains it, my previous experience with this working was more in Drawing Models and Dynamic Views so that makes sense.
I would suggest this should be a product enhancement to disable/grey out the View Flags option altogether if the reference isn't a Saved View. If you hovered over the greyed out option it could read "only used with Saved View references".
